11 “Bring him.”

Vicker walked out of the shower. He stopped when he found his brother standing at the window. This wasn’t part of his memory. He must have changed the past. Shit. Vicker tried hard to think of what happened next, but he wasn’t lucid half of the time back then. His memories were fuzzy. Cassia stared at the heavy shutters as if he could see outside. He was clearly deep in thought. Vicker wondered what was going on with him. It was strange to see him standing there. He hasn’t seen him in a long time. The elders didn’t allow him to visit him. They managed to separate them, and they kept it that way. He wondered what this visit was about. They wouldn’t have allowed him to come if there wasn’t something. He stared at him wishing he was the present Cassia, and not the one in his memories. If he was he would help him navigate his memories and get him and Mae out of this mess. “Cassia?” he said as he walked to the bed. Cassia turned around and faced him. “What’s going on?” “Seria. She sent me. Is everything alright?” Vicker sighed. Of course, she sent him. She knew part of the hold was Cassia. If he disobeyed them they punished him. He clenched his jaw. “What did she say?” he asked, regretting his earlier actions. Gripping her by her neck was a big mistake. “Nothing much, only that she’s worried about you,” Cassia said. He walked to him and touched his temple. s**t. Vicker clenched his jaw as he felt that pressure in his mind as he slipped in. Vicker felt his presence for a few seconds before he pulled back and stared at him. “You feel different.” “I’m fine,” Vicker waved him away. Cassia stared at him. “No. Is your mind breaking?” he frowned. “I can’t feel their hold on you. It’s not as strong. It’s…” Vicker shook his head, stopping him from saying whatever he was going to say. He silently walked to the door, and listened. There was no one there. “Whatever it is don’t tell me,” he said just as he turned around. Vicker stopped short. He was going to ask for his help. “I have a feeling that whatever it is will put you in more danger. Keep your memories intact. The elders are looking for more holes they can sink their claws in. Seria came to me looking for something. I’ll tell her you’re fine. You’re going through your moody circle. I’ll try to convince her to let you out of here. They’ve locked you up for too long.” He turned and walked to the door. Keep your memories intact. “How do I do that? Keep my mind intact, I mean,” Vicker asked thinking of Mae. Her mind was fractured. How did he pull everything together, without going too deep into the past? His brother’s gift was manipulating memories. Surely he could tell him how. Cassia walked back to him. He leaned close and whispered to him. “Focus on the memories that are precious to you. We always go back to those all the time, because they hold strong emotions, and they have the power to affect us body and soul. I know you’re keeping those memories away from the elders, but it wouldn’t hurt to bring them up once in a while just to reboot your mind. Their hold will still be there. But you won’t feel out of control like you usually do.” He touched his shoulder in comfort. “I wish I could take away their hold from you. But I haven’t figured out what it is. They’re keeping me at arm’s length. I have a bad feeling that they might even send me away. I’m not useful to them anymore.” “That’s not true. Seria told me that they’re making another move,” Vicker said. “They need you.” “I don’t know anything about that,” Cassia sighed. He moved away from him. “It doesn’t matter anyway. We don’t belong here anyway, brother. I’ll find a way to break their hold, even if I have t sacrifice myself to do it.” “No,” Vicker said. But he knew he couldn’t focus on that. They came out of that. He was here for Mae. But he changed something. He was scared of what might happen. Cassia shouldn’t be here. “I’ll be fine,” he said walking out of the room. “I’ll talk to Seria about letting you out.” Vicker stared at door. He needed to get Mae out of her as soon as possible before their past really got f****d up. He paced the room, and then stopped. He took a deep breath; pacing and stressing out turned him into that evil bastard he was avoiding becoming. He walked to the bed and sat down. He closed his eyes and did exactly what Cassia told him to do. He unlocked his mind, and searched for the memories that were precious to him. He dropped to his back on the bed, as he reached for Mae. The door to his opened. Vicker swallowed the groan that formed in his throat. He watched as Fluvia walked into the room. This he remembered. It was part of his past. Vicker flinched as the memories flooded his mind. No. Please. No. He begged, he silently begged. He wanted to charge Fluvia and stop him. But he couldn’t because he didn’t know what was about to happen. Vicker clenched his jaw to keep himself from reacting. “I thought I had my quota of you for one day.” “The feeling is mutual,” Fluvia said casually leaning against the wall. He smiled as if he knew something that he didn’t. Vicker growled at hm. “Get the f**k out,” he gritted out. “Just because I can’t kill you, doesn’t mean I should endure your presence.” “It’s time for your therapy." Fluvia laughed. He clicked his fingers and about ten vampires walked into the room. Vicker’s nostrils flared. He snarled as his fangs dropped. “Bring him,” Fluvia said stepping out of the room. Vicker stared at him. He was going to kill the bastard. He roared as the vampires came at him. He fought them, racking his nails across their bodies. They screamed as sank his fangs into their flesh. Blood flew everywhere. But they stabbed him with something that had him staggering to his knees. “Sometimes I wonder why you even bother fighting. You know the elders always get what they want,” Fluvia said leaning close to him. And he whispered in his ear. “And I’m going to get what I want too.” Vicker lunged at him, but the sedative they gave him was already dragging him down. He slumped to the floor, his mind already on Mae. The horror has just begun. Fuck, he thought as his eyes fluttered close.
