“I’ll be back.” The vampire’s words echoed in her mind, causing her heart to thud in fear. Mae gripped the wooden stake behind her back, as she cowered in the corner, staring at the door, anticipating the moment he would walk through the door. Her whole body shook. “You can do it,” she told herself over and over again. There was no one else to end the vampire’s life but her. Lawson trusted her to do it. Thinking about him gave her the courage she needed. But it dissipated as soon as the door opened. She held her breath waiting to see him walk through the door. But another vampire walked in. He stepped out of the way, and two other vampires walked in carrying the evil vampire in their arms. Mae stared as they carried him to his room. What happened to him? She asked herself, confused.
