Thirty-One
“Back off,” a curt, female voice ordered, “I can’t make certain she’s okay if you’re all hovering like mongrels. I know you’re all curious to see her, but I do need to make certain that she’s alive.”
I stirred and found myself facing a brunette woman. She was in her forties, and wore a white lab coat. She used a tiny flashlight to look into my eyes. At least, that’s what I thought it was. I wasn’t a doctor.
“Ah, sleeping beauty awakes,” she said, “wonderful. Princess, can you sit up for me?”
I stared at her for a moment. I wasn’t a Princess. I was Rose James. Then…then everything hit me. I was the lost Princess of Coleum. Apollo had faked a fairytale to try to get me to be with him. He’d killed his brother.
