Chapter 46
I woke up that morning with a sense of expectation. We were going to be alone, mostly. Mary was going to follow, but she’d been instructed to stay at a distance. All night, I had felt him against me. I thought that maybe he would give in. Take me there in the middle of the night. I had barely been able to contain myself. But Gable had wrapped his arms around me tight, and there was no chance of me getting any relief.
“Soon,” he whispered in my ear, as if he knew exactly what I was thinking, “now, sleep.”
I almost laughed. I closed my eyes, but like on most nights, sleep didn’t come. I was too wound up, thinking of what we would do together. But Gable wrapped his arms around me tightly, as if he knew how anxious I was.
