was it all a lie?
There is anger in his eyes, and eternal resentment that never subsides in his heart. All of it was directed at a beautiful woman dressed in a long white gown that is currently walking down the aisle with the prettiest smile gracing her lips. Estella Partridge. She was his bully in high school, or even worse. Because she is worse than her group of friends – she is always watching in complete silence and didn’t even try to stop her rich friends from calling him names, hurting, or even torturing him. He even thought that she secretly enjoyed watching him being bullied. Estella is truly the worst, and it makes sense if he harbors this building anger inside him and is still carrying it with him until now. It will never subside until he has his revenge on her for making him weak and helpless, and even losing his own identity. He would never stop until he paid her back. They bullied him publicly, and that is why he wanted to make his revenge grander and even more special than anything else that had already happened in his life. He wanted it to happen when she was in her happiest moments, on her highest high, and a tragedy would come to her when she least expected it. So, when his eyes caught her wide and happy smile dropped so suddenly. His lips made a cruel curve, even more so, as red stained her pure white bridal gown she currently wore, before she took the vow to marry her future husband, Aiden Dakota. A fairytale dream wedding turned into a tragedy as bullets pierced through her. Oh, such a poor, beautiful bride. Life was taken from her so forcefully just before she got married to the love of her life. Isn’t life just cruel? Or, is he? No, fate is. Or probably herself, because she brought this upon herself. “Yes, you deserved it, Estella,” he thought to himself. You didn’t even deserve any bit of happiness in your life. I’m just being so generous about killing you instantly and not torturing you for life and turning you into madness.” Screams echoed in the wedding venue, the guest was running wildly and searching for a safe place – thinking that it wouldn’t be just her that would shoot to die. This beautifully decorated place was turned into a total mess in just seconds and Maxwell enjoyed every bit of it. Maxwell just stood there, watching that one poor family that had just lost one of their family members in the blink of an eye. Whiskey in his hand, while the other is holding a lit cigarette – he feeds on their misery and sadness that overwhelming to burst. Twisted, but he did not lie, he was truly happy. Blood kept pouring from Estella, even when her father’s hands pressed on her wound, but it was no use as it pooled around her body. Maxwell’s eyes could see life slip away from her as her gorgeous eyes dimmed before they closed entirely, and cries and screams filled his ears as in this very place, on her dream wedding place, she died tragically. No matter how hard her father calls her name, no matter how loud her mother cries painfully, and no matter how hard her brothers shake her body, she will not come back to them anymore. She will never come back. Her soul was taken from her. In just a matter of minutes, the dream wedding turned into a funeral and laughter of joy turned into painful cries. And as her angel of death, Maxwell came to bid her farewell. A bunch of red roses in his hands, he walked to her coffin, spread it on the inside after leaning on her ear and whispering, “I hope you burn in hell, Estella.” Maxwell paused, staring at her peaceful state. “And if God gives you heaven, I will personally drag you to hell.” Estella’s death was his biggest win, and it deserves to be celebrated, especially after all the pain he endured and everything he planned for those years. This is not just a small win; it’s his biggest win. Yet, something inside him feels so weird these days. He feels empty. Almost as if he lost her. Maxwell’s body subconsciously moved to places where they usually met – her favorite places and their favorite places. His eyes searched for her everywhere, but then his heart dropped in disappointment whenever he couldn’t find her. “What is wrong with me?” Back then, he was more than happy when he planned to get back at her, to have his revenge and make her pay the full price, as he was oppressed by Estella and her rich friends. It was only right for him to return the favor after all Estella had done to him, and now everything had ended as he had always planned. But he never expected to feel this kind of pain and emptiness. Distracted, he chose to drive over to Scarlett, thinking that a pretty girl could make him feel better and at ease, like she always does. After all, she is his biggest supporter – the one who pushes him to believe in himself. Scarlett’s existence in his life was so important. She was his savior, and she supported him in everything – she lifted him from his lowest lower, took good care of him in the hospital after being bullied by Estella and her friends, paid his tuition at high school and even university. Not just that, she then discovered that he belonged to the Braxton family. And after all these years, the missing son of Braxton was back where he belonged. Everything was perfect with Scarlett by his side. Or so he always thought. “They said, help a wounded dog, and it will be loyal to you.” Scarlett’s voice was loud enough for him to hear. “It will always listen to you and blindly trust you no matter what.” Maxwell usually never cares about anything like this, but something made him pause before approaching her and choose to stay still and listen to her talk with her friends. She sounded so happy, happier than she could ever be, and it made him feel unsettled. “Estella Partridge is gone, gone, girls.” She giggles. “It was because Maxwell listened to me so well, he did everything I wanted him to do.” One of her friends laughed heartily. “Finally, after you pull Braxton's strings and make him dance on your little fingers,” their wicked laugh echoed in his ears. “He is truly your dog, believing everything you had said about Estella without doing his research.” His body was trembling, not just because of anger but because of anticipation. He was not expecting any of this. Scarlett's happiness. He expected that. But her thinking of him as his loyal and dumb dog that blindly trusted her never flashed in his mind even a little – he always thought that she was the kindest and delicate woman he’d ever met, with no slightest evil in her heart. Yet, he was wrong. So wrong. “I extended my hand at his lowest, that is all,” Scarlett replied proudly, and one of her friends burst into laughter. “Extend your hand, my ass, you were there when Maxwell woke up. “It was Estella’s right–hand man who secretly brought him there.” Then everything went blurry, and his ears were ringing loudly. “What?” Then everything was a lie from the start? “You play your cards so well, Scarlett,” her friend says, as if proud of her evil doing. “Estella’s reputation as a villain is all your doing, because you always play the victim card.” “Thanks that Estella never bothered to explain herself to anyone and let her be painted as the villainess, so the victim cards worked so well and also, thanks to that, you managed to have Maxwell Braxton wrapped around your pretty little fingers.” “Oh, please, Scarlett’s eyes were always set on Aiden Dakota from the start.” Maxwell’s eyes widened as he heard that name. Aiden Dakota was Estella’s fiancé, and they were getting married before that tragedy unfolded. “What do you think this game is for? It’s for her to get Aiden in her hands and get rid of Estella using Maxwell.” Then, was it all truly a lie? "I twisted some truths, and it worked in my favor – God favored me so much." Scarlett giggles, "Well, isn't it nice to have Aiden Dakota as my man and Maxwell Braxton as my loyal dog?" That is when Maxwell realized Scarlett was a total b***h.
