Murder In The Mansion

"Shit!" Shit! My voice echoed back in my head and off the cave walls. Jolting upright with her eyebrows creased in worry, wisteria stares at me, mouth about to open. My finger shoots up and covers her lips, "There is an emergency at the mansion." I am needed immediately." Swimming to the edge, I grab one of the towels I've laid out for us and start to dry off. "I'm only just getting to know you. I don't want to burden you with the severity of this situation." I see a slew of emotions dance across her soft face and interrupt her thoughts to let her know that I want her to go back to her room in the mansion and wait for word from me. Her roulette of ideas stopped, and I could see the shy determination. "If you say so, for now, I'll go back to my room, but I'll be demanding details when you get back." So we both Towled off in a hurry and rushed out of the cave. At the entrance was the carriage from earlier in which I helped Wisteria board. Walking around to the front, I advised the driver to take her back to her room. I shifted to my wolf to avoid questions and ran to my office. Seeing me coming in wolf form and already aware of whatever was happening, my staff opened all doors for me as I ran through my home on all 4's. Reaching my office, I transform again and throw on the jeans and t-shirt already laid out for me. "MURDER! In MY HOME," I bellowed as I rubbed my forehead, pacing the office. His voice was calm though shaky as he replied, "Yes, the young man was in the dumpster. Had the trash can not been so tall and the trash so heavy that they needed a ladder, we may not have found him." Stopping, I looked at him, "In all the years Riara has existed, there has never been a murder. We have to solve this as soon as possible." Walking over to me, Lupid replied, "In truth, we found him a while ago, but I wanted to wait till I had more info before letting you know. A strange aura and scent were coming from the body." Cokcing my head, I waited for Lupin to continue. "Recording what we saw, we are still interviewing those who were at the party to see if they saw anything or if we can find traces of the scent or aura on the guests. So far, We have nothing from the guests, but we did send men over to the witches to see if there was anything they could see." "and," I said, waving my hand at him. "And the witches said they needed to see the body, so we are prepping it for transport." he quickly retorted. " I need to stay as up-to-date as possible on this, so I will be accompanying the body." "I figured you would say as much, so I already have a car prepped, and you can leave immediately." Lupin quipped. "Half-hour, give me a half-hour, I want to see Wisteria and let her know that I will be leaving." "Very well, Linus, the car, it's out front. I will help with the interviews, so link me if you need anything, and I will do the same." With that, Lupin walked out of the office, leaving me to my thoughts." Should I tell Wisteria the full details of this? How would he handle the news, having already admitted that her fighting spirit is weak? Hmm? You know this should be a good test. My small island is being thrown further and further into chaos. If I am to handle it the best I can, I need a Luna that will stick with me through the most challenging times. With my plan laid out my made my way across the estate to the quest cabins. Wisteria was already waiting outside for me. Wrapping my arms around her petite frame, I inhaled her calming pheromones. All legends say that your mate's pheromones can help to still the mind in times of stress. I did feel a sense of relief, but it was nowhere near as intense as the legends claimed it to be. "Maybe there is something wrong with us," Banon quipped. "After all, your mother is a witch and not a wolf." "Do you truly think that her being a witch would have such a strong effect on the mate bond?" I retorted to my wolf. "To me, that seems unlikely." "It is the only thing that I can think of since the mate bond is THERE," Banon responded" Moving her head so that her chin was resting on my chest, Wisteria stared up at me with nothing but questions bouncing around in her bright blue eyes. "You look so deep in thought. What happened at the mansion?" It's such a pity she has gone through so much already to arrive at a mate full of the issues she was running from. Her skin was as smooth as a flower petal as I caressed it. "It's not too late" Banon stated, "We still have time to protect her from our harsh truths." With a deep sigh, I said, " My dear, I wish that after everything you have gone through that I could only give you happy memories. But, unfortunately, this island seems to be in the midst of chaos. " Covering my hands with hers in pure earnest, she responded, "You rescued me from a fate I thought I would never escape. I have felt more emotions than I think I felt in a lifetime in one night. You have even helped my wolf and me to bond more. Despite how depressing the situation, I want to be there for you like you have been there for me, not just tonight but since you found me." Cupping both her cheeks, my lips locked with her as if there were magnets in them. My tongue searched her filled her mouth, desperate to convey my need to be there for her. Caressing my tongue with hers, I could feel how she accepted me, needed me as much as I needed her. Our mouths stayed locked in this dance for a few minutes. Then, pulling away to catch my breath, I was finally able to catch her up to speed on the murder, the questioning, and my need to speed across the island to see the witches. "I want to come with you." Her steely determination as she said this threw me off. Had I unfairly judged my mate? Should I protect her by forcing her to stay here, or should I continue the test? What the hell kind of mate am I that I feel this need to test her. Maybe Banon is on to something with this thing about my mother. Dropping my hands from her face, I said, "OK., We can treat the trip like a vacation of sorts once we are done with the investigation. " The smile that flashed across her face, and she jumped and nodded made my heart flutter. NO, our mate bond is strong. I wouldn't feel these things if it wasn't. We headed across the estate and into the waiting car, walking hand in hand. The night caught up with Wisteria, and she fell asleep across her lap. I was comforted by the fact she felt comfortable enough with me to fall asleep at a time like this. Stroking her hair, I let my thoughts wander to all reasons that a young boy was murdered. It couldn't be for information on the pack since he was a low-ranking Omega. Maybe he saw something during the battle? that was so long ago, though I highly doubt it. Perhaps I should take a page out of Wisteria's book and sleep; sometimes, answers come to me in dreams due to being a half-witch. "It'll take about 4 or 5 hours to cross the island, and it is the middle of the night. It's best to use all the resources and potential resources at your disposal in a situation like this. " Banon responded to my thoughts. With that, I let my head fall back and get some sleep. I found myself among the pack revealing deep secrets. A black shadow in the form of a wolf kept darting out after each mystery. Finally, I told a wolf to follow the shadow and see where it is going. That wolf let me know the shadow left the island into the vast darkness. As I dared to ask which direction it disappeared to, I was shaken awake by the driver. Hmm, was the kid a spy? The dream implies that there is a spy among the crew. Gently shaking Wisteria, I woke her to let her know we had arrived. Excitement flashed across her face before it fell as she looked out the window. I chuckled because I knew what she must be thinking. "What's with the sad face?" "It's just an empty desert with a mountain. I thought this side of the island would be as pretty as the werewolf side." she pouted. Pulling her in to taste her plump lips, I whispered over them, "Just wait, my dear. The witches here truly love to flex their magic. You're in for a treat." AS I said this, our driver pulled up to the mountain, and I rolled my window down. "Linus with the Lone Wolf Pack," I shouted at the mountain. Then, suddenly, it looked like the mountain seemed to be getting sucked into the car. The pulling sensation made me quite nauseous before the vehicle was jettisoned to the other side. Wisteria's mouth dropped open as she looked at the beautiful cityscape. "Does it remind you of your human home?" I asked her. Throwing her arms around me, she exclaimed, "YES! IT LOOKS JUST LIKE NEW YORK! How is that possible?" I let out a low laugh because it looked like her head was going to twist off her body the way it was swiveling around, trying to take in all the sites. "The witches here have an affinity for the human world. So, using magic, they have expanded the space within the mountain and set up cities that are the same as their human counterpart. "amazing," she whispered, falling back in her seat. " For the first part of our trip, we were going to witch version of Hawaii. They grow all of their medical herbs there; it's where the best hospital and morgue are. Afterward, we can come back here or choose a different city." I said, grasping her hand. taking time to think about it, she said, "let's visit somewhere new. I've seen a lot of New York." Kissing her hand, I said, "as you wish." Looking up, let the driver know that we were ready. Now, the drive where we needed to be would usually take another few hours, but since this was an emergency, the witches let us use an enchanted method to get to the morgue. A thin blonde was waiting to take the body from the trunk upon arrival. He gestured for us to follow him in as he used magic to levitate the dead body. The corridors of the morgue had stark, harsh lighting, and we were pretty cold. As we rounded the corner, the blonde pointed to the room to our left and told us to wait there as they took a better look. Agreeing, we entered the tiny but warm waiting room. Sitting together on the soft leather sofa, I pulled Wisteria close and entertained her with some stories from my childhood. I figured some happy thoughts would be pleasant to balance out what we are doing. After only a couple of stories, the blonde popped into the waiting room. "The death of this young man is not natural, but our regular mortician is not suited to get you any more information than you already have. We will need to call in a necromancer." "A necromancer," Wisteria pipped up. "Yes, you heard correctly. We'll need their magic to attempt to walk the path of the dead in the moments before. However, the magic used seems to be extreme, so we don't guarantee an exact picture." he said flatly. " How long will all this take?" I questioned. "It'll be 4 to 5 hours, so you may want to leave and get some rest." He said, making marks on the clipboard he was carrying. "Ok, the mortician has my number." The blonde nurse nodded and left the room immediately. "We're staying close to the morgue, so let's go and get some sleep," I said, looking at Wisteria. All she could do was nod as the events of the night took their toll. "Don't worry, my flower. I'll carry you," I whispered as I hugged her and lifted her off the ground. "Just wrap your arms and legs around me." Her warmth enveloped me as she did so. My head filled with the possibilities of what the necromancer would find as I carried her to the car.
