It was almost painful to watch Georgia and the other maids fawn and drool over Damien as I had breakfast. I attempted to inform them that they were only contributing to the asshole's oversized ego, well I had death glares thrown my way after the first try, so I clamped my mouth shut. They all turned into puddles and puppies once his name was mentioned. For god's sake. Thankfully the trip to Dalia's office went much better. "Please come in dear," she called after I announced my presence by a soft rap on her office door. "How are you doing today?" I could almost hear her real question though: "how did my jerk of a son treat you today?" I knew Dalia wanted to apologize for last night, but it really was not her fault and I did not have to make her feel bad for it. With a broad smile, I answered cheerfully, "Wonderfull, how do you feel this morning?" Terrible," she sighed, "I am so sorry about how badly David behaved at dinner last night," I brushed it off with a small laugh, and maybe a bigger lie, "I forgot about it the moment I left dinner last night." "You know you do not have to work as Damien's maid or as anyone's maid at all." "But Mr. David made his choice last night." I pressed. "I can talk to him, I don't know why he was that way to you last night but I'll talk to him and resolve whatever problems he might have," she assured me but the way Mr. Mcarthy spoke last night left me with a lot of doubt whether he would change his mind. "It's okay Dalia. I'm used to working and to be honest, it felt weird that I would have to stay here without working. Please do not take it the wrong way, but I'm glad to be able to repay your kindness by working as Damien's maid," at least that was not a complete lie. "Oh no!" she said sternly, "If you are going to be putting up with my son, you should be treated fairly. I'll make sure you receive a salary too like every other maid in this house." "Oh no you don't have to..." "Please let me It's the only way I'll let you. Besides, you need to have a steady income after quitting your old jobs." "Quitting my old jobs?' "Yes Darling." she nodded, "it's quite a distance from your new school down there every day. I cannot have you facing danger daily from traveling such a distance" that made sense so did not protest too much. "But can I visit my friend occasionally?" I asked, "work was kinda the only place I got to meet with her freely." "You're not in prison Debby," she chuckled, "your friends can come over as long as they don't cause too much trouble like Damien's." I knew just how much Damien's friends could cause trouble. Thankfully, Sam was the opposite. "Thank you so much, Mrs. Dalia." "You're welcome." she smiled, " did you find your new school uniform appealing?" "I did, thanks. Though was wondering if there could be a few amendments to it. The skirt is a little too...short. And the waistline doesn't um..." I cleared my throat softly, "it doesn't fit me well enough."' She chuckled, "'That's why you have tigh high socks. Don't worry you'll get used to the length soon. and for the amendment, I'll have Miley get that done for you." "That would be amazing thank you." "God, you thank me too much girl." "I'm sorry, I just don't know how else to respond to your kindness...in words." "You don't have to say anything." she said in a warning tone, "you deserve much more care after all you have been through Debby. "Thanks." I found myself saying again, and mouthed an apology to an amused Dalia, "I'll take your leave now."
