Engineering comprised three parts; starting with the large main engines that took up the entire fifth of the aft of the ship then the engine monitoring and control area, which was a maze of pressurized platforms, catwalks, and crawlways that surrounded the main engines. These traditional fusion engines took up over 80% of the space and ran very hot and hectic, requiring around the clock monitoring and maintenance as moving parts for the massive cooling system required lubrication and its strained pipes sprung leaks frequently.
