LILY It was dark when I woke up, dark and cold, and damp. My head was pounding, my ears were ringing, and there wasn’t a single part of me that didn’t hurt. Slowly, as I regained my senses, I realized I was on a bed. No, not a bed. A mattress. A mattress with no linens, no pillow, just a bare mattress. What… what is going on? It took me a little while for my eyes to adjust to the darkness, but when they did, I started making out a little of that place. It looked like I was in a sort of basement, with just one small, covered-up window letting some light in. The place was equipped with the very basic necessities of a living space – a couple of chests, a small kitchen corner, and a washing machine.
