I was reviewing some paperwork when a gentle knock and a familiar giggle told me someone was at the door.
“Hey there,” I smiled as I opened the door to meet my buddy’s grin. It wasn’t his usual, but at least he was smiling – gastroenteritis be damned. “Look who’s here!”
“Dada!” Ev cooed as I took him from my mom’s arms. “I is happy we together …”
I held him just a little tighter. “I’m happy to see you too, buddy”.
“Where mama?” he asked, looking around.
“Mommy’s taking a little nap, now” I told him. “You can play with her as soon as she’s up, alright?”
The look of disappointment on his face left as soon as he saw his toys. He made sure to let me know he wanted me to put him on the ground (by kicking me in the ribs) and, once free, ran towards his most treasured possessions
