Walking through the corridor, I made my way into the open field where temporary tents of all clubs and associations were currently built to assist the aspiring students aiming to be one with them.
It took me a short time to recognize where the cheerleading squad was for there are cheerleaders performing in front of the tent with a signature red pompoms on their hands. Whoa! I literally held my breath when someone was being tossed into the air with her legs spread in a V position.
For a moment, I felt like backing out. Can I actually do it too? Can I let myself be tossed in the air like a paper doll? Jeez! Not everyone was actually doing that. There are those that were assigned as catcher and not the one being tossed aside. My mind intercepted.
Alright. There is no way I am backing down just because of my doubt whether I am cut for this or not. I just have to do it to see for myself. I had had enough cowering for the past years, staying on my comfort zone. It was about time to step on the world of uncertainties.
Besides, I still have to try out for them and pass before I could actually join them officially.
From the distance, I could see my cousin Shamcey waving her hand in the air toward my direction. “Lalisa!” she shouted. Right, she actually had the guts to bear the attention she would get by making a scene.
Well, I suppose that was already expected to a crowd’s darling, Miss Popular like her. She might have been used to this. Despite the same blood we share by a third of the percentage of the existing bloods that runs in our veins, we bear little similarities. I bet it was only our azure eyes that was the same. The azure color was from both our moms who were first cousins.
Ignoring the uninvited attention I got due to the cheer captain’s rather scandalous shouting, I made my way to their tent. I wouldn’t want to have her do a second shout wave yet again.
Along my way, I met someone with a long curly coffee brown hair like me, only that mine was straighter, at a natural small wavy flow. She was walking toward the same direction I am going to.
I was about to ignore her but she held on my arms. “Excuse me,” she attempted to get my attention, which she successfully did. I see no reason to ignore her. Plus, it was no on my character. I mean, I also a shy individual and I understand very well the feeling of not being acknowledge when you attempted to.
“Hmm...” I hummed and look at her.
She smiled nervously. “Are you also going to enlist for the cheerleading try out?” she asked. I nod in response.
“Yes, I am,” I admitted. Now, there is no turning back for me.
“That’s good to hear. At least, I’ll be having someone to lean unto,” she said mindlessly while looking at the sky. I doubt. I hardly can trust myself on this, how am I be even capable on looking out for another.
“I am actually a transfer student, I hope we can be friends. My name is Bella Park,” she explained and introduced herself.
Stretching my own hand, I met her extend hand, grasped on it and shook it a little bit. “I am Lalisa Bartolome,” I also introduced myself. “Nice meeting you.”
“Nice meeting you too. Thank goodness I already made some friend here,” she genuinely expressed. We just smiled at each other and proceeded on the tent.
“Hi Shamcey, we would like to try out on your club,” I told my cousin, who cannot be more happy to hear I accepted her invitation, though a glint of surprised can be traced on her eyes.
“Great! Fall on that line and wait for your turn to write your name and contact address on the pamphlet on Ayesha’s care,”Shamcey explained unto us.
Following her instructions, we fall in line and not long after we were given the chance get hold of the pamphlet were we will be writing our names.
After what seems an eternity of filling out details, we finally came across the cheer captain. “Shake it Up by Cayen Heart Filia wold be the song that will be used. Make at least three minutes routine using that song and present it the other day for the try out,” she explained and handed us a small card where the criteria where written.
“Do it your best! Especially you couz’,” Shamcey even added before we leave.
