I was sitting on my bed, listening to the silence on the other end of the phone. Uncertain about what was happening, I glanced at my device to make sure I hadn’t lost the signal or that she hadn’t hung up on me. But no, she was still there; she just hadn’t spoken.
“Mrs. Cooper, are you still with me?” I finally broke the quiet after what felt like an eternity.
“Yes, I’m here. I just didn’t realize Axel had found his mate,” she replied.
“Oh, I wasn’t aware of that either. I apologize if this comes as a surprise,” I said.
