Caris was cranky. Not just a little cranky but decidedly irritable with a good dose of bad-tempered peppered into it. She’d awaken this morning after having an incredible dream to find herself alone. Once again, she’d gotten up and Malachi was gone from the bed, the cabin, and this time even the Range Rover was gone.
She had gone for a quick swim trying to quell her annoyance but when she’d gotten out, she’d found a black leach stuck to her ankle. She’d screamed and freaked out startling birds who had flown in the air from the nearby trees and then she panicked further unsure of how to remove it. She’d yanked it off and threw it back into the water and then sat on the dock and cried before running into the house to stand in the only tiny mirror in the place trying to see if there were any
