It took Lyra three days to go through the heat and another two days to recover in the aftermath. When she went back to the academy after a week’s absence, Beryl was waiting excitedly for her. “Well, hello there,” Beryl greeted her, her eyes glinting with amusement. “You look so much better than the last time I saw you.” Lyra took a seat next to Beryl, her face flushing.
