Chapter 4.

Ajax’s POV. “Brother, we can’t leave her in there. She is our …” I’m cut off by his growl and I glare at my twin. “We can, and we will. She was on their pack lands when they attacked her. She knows something and until I decide otherwise, she is a threat and will be treated like one until we get the answers she clearly has.” He says before stalking off. “She is our mate. What you have ordered is wrong. She is injured. She was close to f*****g death, and your obsession with what they are doing over there is clouding your judgement.” I snap back at my twin when he stops walking and turns to face me. “Wolves have been going missing. Rumours of the Hounds Of Hell Pack being the ones who have taken them. Then there are the rumours that demons are running around somehow. Then she happens to turn up after years of searching for her, covered in blood and about to be executed. And you think she is innocent in all of this? No, brother, I say it is convenience. When she wakes up, she will be questioned anyway I see fit. Mate or not. She knows what is happening over there and I will get it from her.” He snarls before he stalks off again and I sigh. “He is just scared.” My wolf Jury says and I shake my head. “No, he is being a dickhead. Atlas has always been like that. And Judge is no better.” I say to Jury and he chuckles, knowing I’m right. Judge is Atlas’s wolf and they are both alike. The rough to my soft. The brawn to my brains. But no matter, once he sees her properly, he will see that our little mate is no threat. I was the one who carried her here after Jury and Judge killed the men who were trying to kill her. I knew straight away from her peach cobbler scent what she is to us. Our fated mate, well our second-chance mate. Our first mate Torvi betrayed us in a pack war. She stole pack secrets before rejecting us and the pack as we were about to win. But it caused us to lose the battle. Her betrayal got alpha and luna Morningstar and their daughter of the Bringer Of The Light Pack killed. Atlas was never the same again. He became closed off and only used she-wolves for his release and that was all. “Alpha, the prisoner is awake.” Doctor Bryce says through the link and I turn and head towards the prison underneath the pack house. I tried to get my brother to see reason in taking her to the pack hospital but he is as stubborn as an old goat and wouldn’t budge on it. I make my way down to the prison. Our prison isn’t like others. It is clean, light and our prisoners are made to feel as comfortable as possible. It also gives them a false sense of security before Atlas gets his paws on them. I push through and follow her scent to the room I put her in. When I get there, I see Doctor Bryce moving back from her. “What happened?” I ask as I storm into the room. Jury whimpers in my head before he growls and turns to face the doctor. “He hurt her. He hurt our mate! He must die!” Jury tries to force the shift but I shove him back. “Easy buddy. He wasn’t hurting her. She is fine. Look, she is breathing. She is safe.” I tell him as I turn to face her so he can see her. He whines and sniffs the air around her, and once he is happy I am telling him the truth, he calms down and retreats back. “What happened?” I say as I turn and the nurse looks like she is ready to faint and the doctor is no better. “She was awake. She freaked out when I told her where she was. She tried to break the restraints, repeating she needs to leave.” Doctor Bryce tells me and I look back at her only to find her eyes open. I jump back, my heart racing and I watch in avid fascination as her pupils stretch and turn into vertical slits. Like that of a cat or snake. Her eyes are a vivid violet as her eyes dart around the room. Jury whimpers in my head as he takes her in. “Mate, please calm down. You are safe.” I say, and she turns her head towards me and looks at me before her eyes flutter and close again. “By the goddess, what is she? No wolf has eyes like that. No human side either.” The nurse says and I nod in agreement. “What did you find out?” I ask as I turn to face the doctor and he gulps. “She told me her name but not which pack she is from. But alpha the name she gave, can’t be right.” He says as he sits down and the nurse checks on my mate’s vitals. “How so?” I ask, and he visibly gulps. “Because the name she gave is that of myth and legend. It is not possible.” He says and I look at him as he mumbles to himself about it not being possible. “What is her name?” I ask when Doctor Bryce looks up at me and opens his mouth to speak when the door opens, banging into the wall. We all jump at the sudden arrival of my twin. “Is she stable?” Is all Atlas says and I look at him but he is not looking at me. He is looking at the sleeping figure on the bed. His hands balled tight into fists and his jaw clenched. I can see he is trying to not step towards her, to touch her and smell her. The bond is in full effect and I know it will be calling to Judge to protect her as much as it is to Jury. “Yes, alpha. She is stable. Which is extraordinary. She was knocking on death’s door only three hours ago and she is healed, completely healed. There are markings on her skin. Some look like scars. Others look like tattoos. But that is not what is strange, alphas. She hasn’t shifted yet, but she has had her wolf for some time.” Doctor Bryce says and I look at him again. “How do you know this?” I ask and he looks at me. “She told me.” He says as he stands and walks towards the bed. “We had to sedate and restrain her when she was first brought in. Her wolf took control. The aura from her wolf brought me and half the prison to their knees. Then she told me her name, and it sort of made sense. I think … I think she is more than your average wolf. The power radiating from her. I have never felt anything like it.” He says and I gulp, turning to see our little mate sleeping peacefully. She looks like a doll. Her long blonde braid is falling over her shoulder and her skin is white as snow. She is beautiful, ethereal even. Her beauty rivals that of our goddess. Selene. “Take her to interrogation. We will find out what she knows and what she is.” Atlas says and I go to argue but he looks at me and I shut up. “What is her name?” Atlas asks, and I keep my eyes on our mate. “She said her name is Pandora.” The nurse says. I tilt my head and raise an eyebrow. “Pandora? That is not unusual.” I say when the doctor cuts me off. “Morningstar. Pandora Morningstar.”
