Tessa’s father was 16 when he knocked up her mother. Her grandmother and her new husband, Joel, were just in their thirties when they became grandparents, and thus the talk of the town. The young parents moved to Illinois where teen pregnancy was more common. At first it was a big step, moving from a small town in Montana, to a big, noisy city like Chicago. Tessa’s mother finished high school early, and graduated with honours the day before she gave birth to a healthy baby girl, named Tessa. Her father worked hard when he was 18, and he got in to the fire academy. Tessa’s mother became a secretary.
