LIAM
My team is all gear up and guns are loaded. We all know exactly what we need to do to defuse the situation. My team is the best team on the ship. It is dark still and we are closing in. We go into stealth mode. The helicopter goes low enough for us to jump into the water close to the ship. We swim to the floating boat that has been lowered for us. We use the cover of the night to maneuver to the enemy ship, entering the enemy ship.
We work our way from the deck of the ship to the control room through a series of silent gunshots and cracking of necks, making sure not to be detected. We have reached our objective and radio the helicopter.
"Air support, do you copy?"
"Bravo1, Lima Charlie, over"
"Airstrike when ready, over"
"Roger, over"
Suddenly the air is lit up with gunfire from the helicopter. The people on the ship are crying out and I listen to how the metal of the ship is breaking as the bullets pierce through the ship's armor. My team and I file one line and open the door to the rest of the ship, We shoot and fight our way through the ship, destroying everything and everyone as we go.
We get to the mess hall of the ship and encounter a few soldiers. We duck, roll and shoot as we end the soldier’s lives. I grab a table as a shield and shoots a few soldiers but one of the bullets ricochet off the wall and pierce my shoulder. I only wince and then attack, with full force, the soldier that shot me and I make sure he will not shoot a gun ever again. We then go through the ship with extreme stealth and excellence until there are no more sounds of gunfire.
"Base, sector clear, over"
As we get outside and the sun is high in the sky. Then I can now see the damage to my ship. I look at the ship and everything within me wants to jump into the ocean and swim over to my ship to see if she is okay because the ship looks as if no one could have survived on it.
"Permission to come aboard, over?"
I know that I must follow the procedure that I have been trained to do, day in and day out. But why does it feel as if I do not want to do anything that requires me to do things slowly, that keeps me away from where I want to be, where I need to be. I need to know if she is okay.
"Bravo1, permission granted, over"
I move quickly to the boat and I make my way to the ship. We arrive and I dismiss my team. Everyone goes in different directions. I run through the corridors on my way to her room.
"Liam!"
I hear Helena's voice but it is not the voice I want to hear and I realize that I have not even thought about her through this entire emergency. I turn around and try to look relieved in seeing her safe but my heart does not belong to her anymore. It belongs to Alice.
"Baby, are you okay?"
"Yes, I am fine, I am fine. I am so glad you are here"
She throws her hands around my neck and I slowly put my arms around her. Then I pull her away.
"Listen, babe, I have to go, I've-"
"Yes, yes, of course, go!"
I kiss her forehead and then run again towards Alice’s room. I get to her room and stop at the door. I take a deep breath and then I slowly open the door.
"Fuck...be okay...please"
ALICE POV
I turn around in my deep sleep when I feel a presence next to my bed. I slowly open my eyes. I do not jump at what I see but rather, I smile at this handsome man sitting next to my bed just staring at me. He smiles back at me and then he sighs loudly. I lift my head up with my hand, resting my elbow on the pillow.
"Hey…"
I say it sleepily
"Hey…"
"I am happy you are back"
"Me too…me too"
He just keeps on staring and that safety returns that I felt that night on the deck of the ship. I still feel tired and lay my head back on the pillow, turning to look at his stunning face. He lifts his hand and slowly tucks a loose strand of hair behind my ear. I turn my face so that his hand brush against my cheek. I close my eyes just taking in the roughness of his hand, while I breathe in his scent. Then he says.
"I am sorry...I...just..."
"It is okay...I wanted you to..."
He stands up and turns to open the door. He looks at me one more time. I smile and nod my head. He nods back as if we are speaking in an inaudible language. We both understand that we can not do anything, even though we want to. He leaves the room and I turn around sleeping so much better now that I know he is here.
LIAM POV
I close the door and stand against the wall breathing heavily. I have faced many enemies in my time with the Navy Seals and not even one of them made me this nervous or scared. I have been trained by the best to control every outcome and every situation but no one has prepared me for the feelings I am experiencing now. I feel completely flushed and I have difficulty breathing. Dammit, woman, you will be the death of me
"Sir! Master Chief, Sir!"
The soldier salutes me.
"What is it, soldier?"
"The Admiral wants to see you asap, sir"
"Let's go, soldier!"
"Yes, sir!"
We walk through several corridors and finally enter the briefing room. I salute the Admiral.
"Sir!"
"At ease, Master Chief. We have bigger problems than saluting"
"What's going on sir?"
"It's bad, Liam. We are going down. She took on too much damage to stay afloat. We are too far out in enemy territory to get help from the states. It will take them weeks to get through all the paperwork"
"How much time do we have?"
"24 hours, pushing it…"
I try to concentrate on the words of the Admiral but all I can think of is how I am going to keep her safe through this disaster.
"I think we should prepare to evacuate. There is an island not too far from us but it is in enemy territory. We should set up base there until we can get help"
"Yes, sir! I will speak to the guys and see to it that we take enough supplies and all we can carry. We should move at night, it is best to move under the cover of darkness. We do not want any casualties."
"Thank you, Liam...and Liam, please let someone check out your arm"
I have completely forgotten that I have been shot. I look at my shoulder and realize I might need medical attention. I salute the Admiral and walk out of the room.
ALICE POV
I turn around trying to wake up. I sit upright and reach for the tray of food. Then, I put my feet on the ground and feel the familiar slippery substance of blood underneath my shoes. I look down and it is blood like I thought. Why would there be blood in my room? ...Oh god…it is Liam!!
