"She was okay when she left home in the morning." Max says quietly.
"I know that this is hard."
"You know nothing about what I'm feeling. What triggered the miscarriage?"
The nurse shrugs.
"Miscarriages in the first three months are very common. Nothing has to happen to trigger that; and this one looks pretty natural to me."
"Does she know that she lost the baby?"
"No. She was exhausted and emotionally unstable. That was not the right time to tell her."
