I hadn't realized that I was holding my breath. I slowly release it, my shoulders sagging in relief when Max walks in. This was getting out of control real quick. Even I can't control my own mother when she's pissed. "What's going on?" Max demands when he gets to the table. "She hit me, Max. She's a savage. Kick her out!" Brent's Mom wails. "He doesn't have to." My Mom says calmly. "I was leaving anyway." "Please don't leave yet. Let's fix this." Mom shakes her head at him. "No thanks. I'm leaving with my daughter." His eyes stray to me. I bite my lip when our eyes meet, and our gazes hold for a second before he turns back to my Mom. "I would really like to hear what caused the ruckus. Let's solve everything before you leave. That way, we can all put this drama behind us
