His Purpose

1149 Words
While I was roaming the new era, I met the sweetest little girl in the midst of the French Revolution. She was a 10-year-old girl with a terrible upbringing. She was cursed with the sight, she could see and hear ghosts. They hunted her daily. I flew back to the Underworld and straight to N’eteri. He taught me all I needed to know in ten short Underworld years, which equals one human year. When I left the first time, I had made a necklace that she could hide under her clothes to protect her from spirits. She would be invisible to them through magic. I infused the stone with as much of my essence as possible, so she was safe. I returned after one human year and I taught her what I learned. I stayed to protect her and was her shield. I had found my destiny the meaning to my new life. I had scared her at first, but N’eteri had taught me how to use glamour to change my appearance, so I was able to blend with the crowd and became something of a big brother to the girl. After she fell in love with an Irish man, she gave birth to a little girl until her husband was killed. They had lived happily among the countryside of France, so I suggested we move to England to start new. She agreed and we moved. Years later, she would meet her fate to curse her family blood for years to come. “I understand.” I had lost my little sister, but her daughter was still alive, and I swore to her mother to protect her. She was an adult when he called me, my one friend Grendel, I had given him a trinket to contact me if he needed me. In my 35 human years on earth he had never called before. The Underworld was in complete destruction of itself thanks to the angels coming down and ordering demons around, thus starting an eternity-long civil war. At least that is what it felt like. I had to leave my seer with her permeation and extra protection along with demon blood if she ever needed the extra strength. I checked in as much as possible until the war took hold of everything. Once the million years of chaos had passed, I had become a council to rule and became an advocate for the demons to handle the angels. They had tried for about twelve human years to command us, treating us as if we didn’t live there, and they did, so, I was the one to use anything means necessary to make them understand we were not their slaves. That had made them weary of my presents. Therefore, I was needed whenever they came down for their notorious pain in my ass meetings. It had become a thorn in my side. I had been gone so long. “My...my...my lord you... you... can’t leave, the angels....” I put my hand up as the little demon chased after me. We were supposed to have a meeting, or so the angels decreed, was going to happen. However, I was already set that I was leaving. I have watched over her for the last few years and I have let her struggle for too long. It is my fault I never should have given that family blood. “But my lord they... they asked for help.” He had stuttered awkwardly. I stopped from my walk. A rumble came from the depths of my belly. I would consider it a laugh, but the gremlin shrank back in fear. “And what did they offer in return for this said help?” I asked, glancing at the puny thing I couldn’t think it was possible, but he had shrunk more, hiding behind his papers. “They... they didn’t.” I huffed and started to walk again. It started to follow. “what..what..what?” I sighed, “Tell them to leave until I say otherwise.” I barked. “NOW!” I said louder as he stopped moving. The silence angered me, and I was louder than intended. I could hear his feet slapping against the floor as he ran away. I got to my chambers and shut the door behind me with a sigh. I glanced at the mirror that showed the small girl hiding in a closet with her hands over her ears. She was crying in silent. My heart ached for the small thing she had to be no more than eight years of age, yet she has suffered so much. This was the reason I had to leave. I have gone back a few times, but I had to leave without anyone knowing a few years back, but there have been problems with things down here, so I have not been back. I fear I have caused that girl's problem, but the real person who caused it was that as*hole of an father of that little girl. I should have been there to protect them, but all I can do is go and find her to take her out of that hell. I get a sack and start to pack my things. That is when my door slams against my walls. “What is this that you are leaving!” My ancient Italian friend Grendel had stomped into the room, his accent thick and gritty. His bitter happiness showed in his voice. I nod, “Yes, I have to go, this was not the plan I should have left sooner.” I grumbled, continuing to stuff my bag. “No, no, no, no. You are needed here. You cannot leave, understand that you are intimidating. They say the angels fear you. These other demons are wimps. They cannot handle them without you, yes. Ha-Ha, that settled you stay, si.!” I sigh, “No, I have to go. This is my destiny, they are not my problem. I think you will all survive without me.” He laughs, “NO, they will fail.” “Then you take my place, you are just as known.” “I am not you. They do not fear me.” “Make them. You are very persuasive.” I smiled at the man as he sank into my plush cushion chair. He grunts, “You have such soft furniture.” I sighed, “Just enjoy I will be leaving soon.” He grumbles to himself then says, “Just give us five human years, then you can leave, but we need to make arrangements and preparations for the next person that takes your place.” “And will you not call me back?” He shakes his head, “No guaranties, but we will do our best not to need you.” I nodded. “I agree five human years.”
