Chapter 6 His Cruelty

Zoe’s POV

I shut the door of the room behind me and rested my back against it, closing my eyes. I can still feel the sensation of his lips, water pooled in my eyes and dropped out from the corner of the eyes.

Although Cameron has not rejected our bond, but what said was actually the rejection of me. The back to back rejection will not be good for me neither it will be for my wolf. I inhaled deeply.

‘Calm down Zoe, there is a lot that you have to do, bothering about mate and his liking or disliking should not be your priority at this moment’ I muttered to myself. I was currently in a vulnerable stage of my life and had to make efforts so I can get stable as soon as it was possible.

I could hear Nolan’s voice, asking about me upon which Cameron responded him that I left to take some rest.

‘Jerk! His audacity to lie’ gritting my teeth, I lay down on the bed to rest. Since I have arrived here, they had not given me the chance to have a quick nap, taking the free moment as advantage I closed my eyes with intention to sleep.

My life has been on rollercoaster ride recently and looks like my mind has taken it very seriously, as I closed my eyes, instead of letting me to relax and sleep, my thoughts starts to come up with list of challenges I was currently having, pushing all the stress over me so I should work on it and not take a nap.

‘Fine, you win’ cursing my brain for being my enemy right now, I picked up the phone, opening the google and starts looking for the jobs in New York, scrolling down, I found many jobs, as part time, or permanent, with skills required or skills I already had, eventually, there was a long list of jobs where I can apply but then again, an idea popped in my mind.

I have studied medicine and I must seek a proper internship, where I can earn and has the practice as well. As it clicked to me, I switched the tab on my phone and went through the contact list, aim was to find the number of my professor, who had shown so much appreciation and trust on my skills and encouraged me to approach him, whenever I look for the internship.

The bell was going on his number, and I prayed silently that he answers it, as I don’t know his current schedule but I knows that he never responds the call when he is in midst of lecture or his shift.

‘Hello!’ I heard his strict voice and a smile spread on my lips.

‘Good afternoon sir! It’s Zoe, your student’ I introduced myself, as he gave me his number but forgot to take mine.

‘Oh my God! Zoe! How are you dear?’ recognizing me, his strict voice turned in to the sweet one.

‘I am good sir. I wanted to let you know that I am back to New York and will appreciate if you can get me an internship in a good and reputable hospital of New York’ I seek favor from him, knowing very well that he will be happy to help me. He has supported many students in finding a good internship, he has done this before as well with my seniors too.

‘You made a good decision Zoe, I am very happy that you are back. Our city needs a talented medicine student like you’

‘Thank you so much sir’ His appreciation always motivated to do more.

‘I have an internship in my mind and you will be a perfect candidate, but it will take some time, why don’t you participate in an upcoming graduation speech meanwhile? Since, you are back in town you must participate. You are amongst top graduate of our university and it will be an great oppryunity for you. University had invited VIP guests and it is high time for students like you to shine.’

‘I would love to. I must start working on the graduation speech then’ I was enthusiastic about the upcoming event. While I was talking to him, there was a call coming on my phone, removing the phone from my ear, I check to find my adoptive father calling me.

I quickly concluded the call with my mentor and dialed dad’s number. I was afraid inwardly for what he could me calling to me right now.

‘You b***h, dared to sneak from the dungeon?’ the moment our call connected, I heard him barking on me. My jaw clenched.

‘I had broken all the ties with your pack, why has you called me?’ The way he treated me yesterday just because of strangers has made me to give up every bit of respect that I ever had for him.

‘I was informed that a private jet was sent for you, so you can safely leave Los Angles. I wonder, did you secretly had a sugar daddy in New York who has been supporting you financially?’ he sneered at me, leaving me in shock.

‘What had you taken me?’ sugar daddy? Seriously! I was beyond shock and slowly starting to fuming.

‘Huh! You are such a lowly person why would I even think about you. I just find out the reason that why you broke your engagement with Daniel, I was angry before, but now I am glad that Alpha Daniel find his mate, she is such a nice and well-mannered woman. She saved me from future embarrassment. Having a daughter like you is a disgrace for me’

‘You are comparing your daughter from a stranger?’ my question was an obvious reaction.

‘Daughter? You call yourself a daughter? If you really are a true daughter of Alice than send me five million dollars for her treatment. Her treatment is expensive and I had already spent enough on you, it is the time you repay me. So, if you want me to keep her treatment continue send me the money by tomorrow’ I slumped down on the bed in sorrow.

‘She is your wife, and her treatment has nothing to do with the matter between us’ I said with pain in my voice, a bitter reality hit me that although I have sneaked out of the Redwoods pack and break off my ties with them. I still can’t get rid from them because my mom is there and knowing her deteriorating health, I can’t afford her treatment to be stopped.

‘It has! It has Zoe. She raised you like her own daughter and now that you have find out some very rich person to back you, why hesitate to spend some money over her health? She deserves your loyalty’ I gritted my teeth.

‘I don’t have any sugar daddy. From where I am gonna arrange five million dollars’ I yelled at him through the call. I swear, my adopted father is the most selfish person I ever came across.

‘Don’t lie to me, you brat. My sources told me that you flee from here in private jet. How can you explain this?’ I remained silent, because it was true, my biological family sent a jet for me, but he doesn’t need to know that my biological family has find me out.

‘See, you don’t have answer to this. I need the money by tomorrow or forget about your mom being healthy ever’ he sneered at me at my quietness, the call in the other side was hung up and I stared blankly to the black screen of my phone, feeling helpless.

‘We will find the way Zoe’ tears were cascading down on my cheeks, when my wolf supported and encouraged me, I shook my head and gave words to the pain that was tearing me a part from inside.

‘How he can be so cruel. He never showed love and affection towards me, I accepted because I was his adopted daughter, but mom, she is his fated mate. How he can’t be considerate about her. How her health and well-being can’t be his priority.’ I murmured to my wolf, who also felt my pain but was saying soothing words to me.

‘We will bring her out of that mess Zoe.’ Her words hit me differently. While I was sneaking, it was not in my mind that she will get alone, but now I have realized that to keep her safe I have to go to Redwoods pack, just to take her out of that cage and will punish all of them who had did wrong to me and my mother, I vowed to myself.
