CHAPTER 19: THE AWAKENING RITUAL
EVERLY:
I found it hard to look into the shimmering eyes of the priestess. It was like molten ice and somehow unnatural. She pointed to the stone altar at the center of the room and told me to go there.
“Lie down, child,” she said. “The awakening ritual requires your full submission to the moon’s power.”
I felt reluctant and looked back at Kaelan, hoping he could reassure me. He stood tall, his golden eyes locked on me
He was silent but I knew he was solidly behind me.
“I'm here with you,” he murmured, not taking his eyes off me . “I’m not going anywhere.”
Swallowing hard, I nodded and sprawled on the ground in front of the altar. The altar was cold against my skin as I laid down, and it made my heart thunder in my chest.
