The steady chime of the heart monitor nearby was the first thing I heard when I woke up. The sound had become so common, that I didn't even need to open my eyes to know where I was. 'I really need to stop waking up like this. It's becoming a habit.' I think to myself. I woke up groggy, feeling as though someone had run me over numerous times with a car. My throat was scratchy, and felt as though the skin around it had been cut off.
