That night, after the strange howls near the Crescent Vale border, Jax and I walked home through the quiet streets of the pack village. The moon hung low and round, lighting the path like a pale lantern. The forest had been alive with tension earlier, but when we reached the packhouse, everything had shifted. Everyone was on high alert. Guards patrolled the grounds, wolves moved in silent lines, and the Alpha and Luna were giving instructions in hushed voices.
