My hands are shaking. The flash drive feels heavy in my palm, though it’s just a small piece of metal and plastic. But inside, it holds everything — the answers I’ve been searching for my entire life. Everything I’ve been running from. I crouch behind the trash cans at the edge of the street, heart pounding. The motorcycles that scared me just minutes ago have vanished around the corner. Moonfire warriors must be patrolling the area. I don’t know if they’ve seen me, but I can’t take the risk of staying out here any longer. I stand, keeping low, and dart into the shadows between buildings. My wolf prowls inside me, tense, whispering warnings I can barely ignore. “Move fast. Don’t let them see you. Not now.” I clutch the flash drive tightly in my hand. My mind races with possibilities.
