CHAPTER 1: Burden of Heart
We, humans, are on this planet for a reason. We cannot deny that there is more to humans than just the flesh that we know. There is more than the existence of life and death. There's something in this world that even science can't explain. Such as the thing that we call "bound spirits". Bound spirits are what we call those souls who haven't crossed into the light yet. There are two kinds of bound spirits. First, the unfinished bound spirits, wherein these spirits are the souls who have an unfinished business that has to be done. Second, the vengeful bound spirit, the most dangerous of all. These are the souls who have died of too much torment, hatred, and regret. They became the pawns of a demon, and a normal person called them monsters. We, the Youth of Mysteries, tried to decipher and explain those so-called bound spirits, and we tried to stop the demons from using the emotions of the bound spirits to prevent them from crossing. These events bound us together. A teenage girl and a man in his mid-twenties are walking in a dark hallway of a school trying to find something that they should deal with. "Brother, are you really sure that that thing is in here?" A teenage girl asked, and the man in his mid-twenties nodded his head. "Yes, according to an uncle whom I helped trace that thing, it is really here." A confused look was immediately written on her face, "Then, why is it so quiet here?" The man in his mid-twenties stopped walking and faced the girl. "And that is the odd thing here." "So, this school shouldn't be quiet at night?" said the teenager, raising an eyebrow. The man in his mid-twenties sighed, "Yes, because there is supposed to be a party in this place tonight. I just don't know which part of this school though." The girl was shocked, "Is it even allowed?" "Yes, it is.Since this is a school, it is led by a student organization called the Student Council. Then, it's not impossible to have a party at night. All they have to do is to follow the procedure." A lot of questions were on the girl's mind, but she refrained from asking her brother. When they were finally done looking at the main building, which is where the classroom is located, they gradually walked towards the faculty building. In their roaming, they did find nothing odd, aside from the quiet and eerie atmosphere around them. They didn't know if the thing they were trying to find and deal with knew of their existence in the area or if that thing was just trying to preserve its strength for greater use. "We should go," The girl looked at her brother and said, "How about the students?" "We should let them do what they wanted," the man said, shrugging his shoulders. "Even if they could die from it? There is something in this school and---" "Filo," the man called his sister to calm her down and put his hands on her shoulders. "Nothing bad will happen in this school. Not in the meantime. That thing was too cautious to do something, so, calm down, okay?" The girl looked at her brother and nodded her head slowly. They walked in the hallway with a little light from the moon, and then, when they reached the hallway, which was dark enough to not see someone, they disappeared. As the man in his mid-twenties leaves the school premises, a woman suddenly appears at the highest part of the school, the clock tower. A creepy smile appeared on her face and she was looking at the auditorium where the party was going on. The teenage girl, named Filonia, went back to their mansion with her brother. She didn't bother to go with her brother to report to their grandfather, who is now probably sitting in his Chevelle chair in his office. Filonia was such a sweet and bubbly girl when she was a little girl, yet an event befalls her family and gradually makes her a quiet person. She's smart and loves to read. She's dreaming of being a normal girl like she was before. Filonia lay down on her bed while his mind was thinking about those students partying on dangerous premises. "Should I go and stop them?" Filonia mumbled and immediately dismissed the thought, "They won't listen to me anyway, why would I?" While thinking of how she could survive against the enemy, she heard a knock on her door, followed by the voice of her brother, "Filo, Grandfather wants to talk to you." he said. "You can meet him in his office." And footsteps walking away can be heard. Filonia sighed and stood up. She understands that whenever her grandfather wishes to see someone, it means he has something he needs to do for them or he will ask something. Without any thoughts, Filonia walks towards her grandfather's office. When she arrived, she saw her uncle walking out of the office. Her uncle smiled at her and she just nodded her head. She entered, and she saw no one aside from her and her grandfather. "Grandfather, you want to see me?" Filonia immediately said. An old man sitting on his Chevelle chair looked at Filonia and dismissed all his paper work and smiled at her. "There you are," He stood up and went to the single sofa. "Have a seat, my dear granddaughter," he added. Filonia obeys him and sits down on the nearest sofa, which is adjacent to his grandfather. "Why did you call me 'Grandfather'?" She asked again. Her grandfather sighed first before saying, "I heard that you wanted to save those students." Filonia's forehead furrowed. "What do you mean, Grandfather?" Filonia's grandfather, Alfonso Avenir, is currently the head of the Avenir household, which is one of the main forces against the vengeful bound spirits. Alfonso sadly smiled at her granddaughter and said, "You don't have to be burdened by anything that happened to our family, my dear." Filonia immediately changed her expression from emotionless to guilt, which didn't escape Alfonso's eyes. "Filo, my dear granddaughter, I want you to live your life to the fullest. I don't want you to carry the burden of our family." "But," "Filo, do you want to save them?" Filonia didn't know what to say, but then she gradually nodded her head slowly and looked at her grandfather intentively. "I want, but it will give you a problem." Alfonso smiled. "Not at all," said Alfonso, as he gave her a folder. "I want you to study here. Our family does not take any sides with either of the three empires. They are all open to accepting anyone from our family, so there is no problem if you want to study there." Filonia was amazed by his grandfather's decision. She always dreamed about being a student. She always dreamed about having friends. She always does. She never stops dreaming, but she stops showing it. "Grandfather..." "The country is willing to let you in. Be sure to behave." Alfonso said while smiling, but then tears came down from Filonia's eyes, catching him off guard. "Are you okay, Filo?" He asked worriedly. Filonia nods her head and says, "Thank you, Grandfather." And again, a smile forms on Alfonso's lips and he pats his granddaughter's head slowly and lovingly. "You don't have to say thank you. You're my one and only grandchild. You're the only one left to me by Elises." Filonia hugged her grandfather and cried. She remembered how hard it is to suppress her emotions all throughout this year. After ten years, she finally let her tears flow again. Filonia's mother and father died in the massive monster attack. Because of that, she decided to be strong and protect those she loved the most. She really wanted to protect her family from their enemy.
