Act 1: Episode 2 - The Monster Part 1

“No! No! Let me go! I don’t want to go! Let me go!” I begged my mother as she tried to drag me into the basement.

“Ow, mother it hurts, my wrist hurts! Let me go!”, She stopped and pause for a moment.

The air became silent, and the surroundings were growing eerie. Mother pulled my hand and slapped me in my right cheek. She pinched my cheeks with her palms under my chin and looked me in the eyes with terror. Her eyes were blank as cold snow, she wasn’t the mother I know, she was a monster eating my mother from the inside.

“You stubborn child! How dare you talk back to me! I am your mother! Children shouldn’t talk backed to their mothers like that!”, she stared into my eyes as if she was a wolf who wants to devour me.

“You are not my mother! You are a monster!”, I talked back to her with fears eating me up.

“What did you say puny punk?”, her pinch got tighter, and my cheeks were getting red as a tomato. The pain was unbearable, she was squeezing my face hard.

“O-ow! Le-et ee o!”, I tried to talk but she was pinching my cheeks hard that I couldn’t spit any

words.

“Come here!” She pulled my hand and drag me to the basement door.

“No! mother please no! I begged you! Please!”, she continued to drag me with force.

I looked down and saw the dark basement from below. I still tried to fend off my mother to let me go but her force was greater than mine. I couldn’t do anything.

“This is a punishment for being a bad child!”

“No, mother plea- “, she pushed me down the basement and I rolled down the stairs. I saw mother from atop with a blurry vision. She slowly closes the door, and the light began to fade along with my consciousness.

*Ring* *Ring* *Ring*

I heard my phone ringing and opened my eyes. I pick up my phone and checks the caller. It was Butler Ko and I answered the call.

“Hello? What is the matter Butler Ko?”, I asked.

“Master Shin, sorry for the disturbance but you need to come home now, your mother is here right now, and she keeps insisting that she wants to see you”, Butler Ko explained.

“Alright, I will be there in a moment”

“Have a safe ride, Master Shin”

I canceled the call and stood up. I put my phone in my coat pocket and fold the cloth. I drive my car and go to my home.

As I was on my way, I stopped at a red light. I looked at my left and I got startled after seeing a girl wearing a helmet and sunglasses riding a motor delivery bike.

“Wow, what a nice car”, I read her lips.

“I wonder how much this cost? Maybe my life as a whole ha ha ha”, she sarcastically laughs.

Her expression suddenly changes.

“My life sucks, I want to die”, she became from a smiling flower to a wilted flower.

The green light pops up and she went on her way. I looked at her until she was gone from my sight.

I continued to drive.

I arrive at my home, and I saw Butler Ko and the servants waiting for me to arrive.

“WELCOME BACK, MASTER SHIN!”, they said as they bow their heads.

Butler Ko went near me. I reached out the car keys and Butler Ko took it. He calls an assigned driver to put my car in the garage.

I entered my home as Butler Ko follows me.

Upon entering I saw the head of my mother sitting on the sofa waiting for me.

I snapped my fingers thrice to call a servant. Three servants appeared and wait for me to order.

“I am thirsty, get me some ice-cold water”, I ordered.

“Right away, Master Shin”, the first servant said as she bows her head and went on her way.

“Get me some yogurt milk”, I ordered.

“Right away, Master Shin”, the second servant went on her way.

“Get me some slice kiwis”, I ordered.

“As you wish, Master Shin”, the third servant said and went on her way.

I sat on the sofa at the opposite side where my mother sits in the front and cross my legs. I laid my elbow on the sofa arms and rest my fist on my right chin.

The servants arrived along with the things I ordered and put them on the table. The servant poured me a glass of water and gave it to me. I gestured that I don’t want it and she put the glass on the table. The servants bowed their heads and left.

“What do you want?”, I asked her.

“I just want- ?”

“You want more money?”, I cut her off.

“No, I-”, I cut her off again.

I snapped my finger to call a Butler Ko.

“Give me a bag”, I ordered.

A servant gave Butler Ko a bag and put it at the table. I signaled Butler Ko to open it. Butler Ko opened the bag and a load of cash was flowing inside the bag.

“No, Shin I just want-“

“Isn’t this what you want?”, I cut her off again,

“No, I don’t want any money, I just want to take care of you as a mother”, she said.

I smiled at her with discreet.

“What do you take me for? I am not your son, and you are not my mother?”, I said.

“I promised your father before he died that I would take care of you as long as I am alive”

“How many times do I need to say this? I don’t need a mother”, I tilted my head.

She stood up and went near me. She kneeled and grabbed my hands to beg.

“Please Shin, my conscience doesn’t want to give you up easily”

I took away my hands from her and stood up.

“What an absolute clown! Hahahaha, you sure being funny”, I smirked at her with despise.

She went near me with her knees still on the floor. I got upset.

“What do you think you’re doing right now? You’re so pathetic! Don’t you have any pride?”, I cocked my head and look at her.

“I don’t have any pride when it comes to you”

I got angrier and took the cold glass of water and poured her head with it.

“I know you just want my money, I can buy your pride, name your price woman”, I offered.

“I just want to take care of you, I don’t need money to be your mother”, she said while her wet hair was covering her face.

“Take care of me? Funny! HAHAHA”, I turned my back on her and snapped my finger.

I snapped my fingers again and again. Each servant came after each of my snaps. I continued to snap my fingers until the room was full of my servants. I didn’t stop until I was satisfied.

“HOW CAN I HELP YOU MASTER”, all the servants said as they bowed their heads.

I look back at her and she was still kneeling on the floor with her pathetic face.

“So, do you still think I need you to take care of me? When I have endless people serving me? What the use of you when I have thousands of servants?”

She stood up and fix her wet hair.

“Yes, you have a thousand servants but you only have one mother”, she said to me as tears fall on her cheeks.

I clenched my fist so hard I can’t control my anger anymore. I clapped my hands twice.

“GET HER OUT!”, I shouted.

Two of the servants grabbed her arms.

“I can go out by myself”, she said. She took her arms away, took her bag, and went on her way to the door. She stopped and looked at me.

“I will never hate you because I am your mother”, she said and left.

I got more upset that I can’t control my anger anymore. I sat and snapped my finger. A servant came to pour me a glass of water then gave it to me. I drank all of it then threw away the glass. Servants came running to clean the broken shards on the floor

“AHHHHHH! F*ck that b*tch!”, I shouted out of anger.

“You need to calm down, Master Shin”, Butler Ko said.

I stood up and went to the balcony, Butler Ko followed along with the other servants. I sat down and saw the beautiful garden below.

“Butler Ko, get me some wine and bring my Nintendo Switch”, I ordered.

“Right away, Master Shin”, Butler Ko replied.

Butler Ko signaled the servants and took the request right away.

The servants arrived and Butler Ko poured me a glass of wine. I played games for several hours and got keeps drinking.

“Master Shin, please don’t forget that you have dinner with your girlfriend tonight at 7 pm”, Butler Ko reminded me.

“Huh?”, I didn’t hear him as I was almost drunk and sleepy.

“I will tell her that you are busy and couldn’t go for some reasons right away”, Butler Ko figured me out immediately.

“Master Shin, I think you should have a rest now, you have enough with the alcohol, let me send you to your bedroom”, Butler Ko said.

Butler Ko took the Nintendo Switch and gave it to the servant. He grabbed my arm and wrapped it around his shoulder and help me go to my bedroom.

He puts me in bed and called the other male servants to help me change my clothes. Butler Ko then covered me with a blanket, turned off the lights, and closed the door.

Butler Ko POV

I called Master Shin’s current girlfriend Ms. Kim Na Yeon to remind her about the cancellation

“Hello? Who is this?”, Ms. Kim answered.

“Hello, Ms. Kim, this is the Grand Butler of Shin Jin Ko Sang Gu. Master Shin said that he can’t come for tonight’s dinner because of his tight schedules for tonight. He said is sorry and move the date for the time”, I explained.

“What? Again!? Is he even serious about our relationship? I even bought a new dress just for tonight! Why can’t he call me instead? Is it because he is with the other girls he has? I know he is a playboy, I bet he has many girlfriends, and he is having fun with them right now! His schedules are just his excuses! What a scumbag!”, Ms. Kim was very angry.

“Ms. Kim, please calm down. You are his only girlfriend, and he never hangs out with any other girl except for you. He even shows his face for you and that means you are special to him. Please trust Master”, I said to her.

“Really? Is that really true?”, she seems pleased with what I have just said.

“Yes, Ms. Kim, it's true. You can calm yourself. Master Shin is very picky when it comes to trusting people. If he shows his face for you then he trusts you so please have trust in Master Shin back”, I was able to hook her.

“Okay, I can forgive him. He is a businessman after all, why be a businessman when you are not going to be busy at all? Tell him that we can have dinner next time, okay?”, she said.

“I will, Ms. Kim. Thank you, I should hang up now”

“Okay, I will contact you again if ever I need something”

“Sure, you can, Ms. Kim”

“Wait! Who are you again? I need to save your contact”, she asked.

“I am the Grand Butler of Master Shin, Ko Sang Gu”

“Oh okay, bye now Butler Ko!”, she hangs up.

I called a servant and gave them the phone. I went back to Master Shin’s bedroom to check on him. I opened the door, and he seems to be sleeping fine. I called a servant.

“Bring some water and put it on the night table so he can refresh himself when he wakes up, just be careful when entering his room and don’t make any sound”, I ordered.

“Right away, sir”, the servant said and left.

I checked everything in the house and prepared for tomorrow. Serving Master Shin is the reason why I’m still living. If he ever tells me to die, I won’t hesitate to do so. I have already dedicated my life to him ever since. It’s not money I am after but the loyalty I am offering for him. He is not paying me, but I am paying for him. Master Shin is the only person I would die for.

Shin Jin POV

*ring* *ring* *ring*

I woke to the sound of my ringing phone. I picked up my phone and check the time, It’s 3 in the morning. I looked up the caller and Chan Yu was calling me. I answered the call.

“Hey, Chan- uhh uhh ho”, I cough because my throat was dry.

“Wait a moment”, I picked up the water pitcher and poured a glass of water then drank it.

“Okay, what is it so early in the morning?”, I asked.

“This might be bad news for you”, he said.

“Spit it up, if it isn’t important, I am hanging up”

“Wait, wait as you can see Lee Chun Ho is still alive. He is breathing fine, but he is in a comatose state right now”, he explained.

“Heh! That punk is still hanging on a thread, what’s the purpose of living if you’re already miserable and broken”, I said.

“Well, I just called now so you won’t get mad and shout at us if you ever come by the lair tomorrow”, he said.

“huh? What did you say?”

“Seriously yo-“, I hang up and went back to sleep.
