Nadia’s POV Three years. For three years, I had loved a man who barely remembered I existed. And like a fool, I was still hoping he would love me back. “Do you think he’ll like it?” I asked, staring at the beautifully decorated dining table. My personal maid, Clara, smiled. “Of course, Luna. You prepared everything yourself.” I looked around the dining room. Red roses decorated the table. Candles stood beside two crystal glasses, and Vincent’s favorite dishes were arranged neatly. Today was our third mating anniversary. Three years since Alpha Vincent had stood before the entire Shadowfang Pack and promised to love me forever. I could still remember his words. “You are my mate, Nadia. My heart belongs to you.” Back then, he had looked at me like I was the most precious woman in the world. But things had changed. My husband no longer kissed me before leaving for work. He no longer held me while we slept. Sometimes, an entire week passed without us having a proper conversation. Whenever I asked what was wrong, he blamed his responsibilities as Alpha. I tried to understand. Being the leader of Shadowfang Pack wasn’t easy. But was it too much to ask for a little affection? “Luna?” Clara’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. “Are you all right?” I forced a smile. “Of course.” But she didn’t look convinced. Everyone in the pack knew my marriage was falling apart. Vincent’s mother, Lady Eleanor, never missed an opportunity to remind me that I wasn’t good enough for her son. Just yesterday, she had humiliated me during breakfast. “Three years of marriage and still no heir. What exactly are you useful for, Nadia?” I had lowered my head and remained silent. Vincent had been sitting beside me. He heard everything. But he said nothing. The memory made my chest ache. However, today was different. Today, I had wonderful news. I placed my hand over my stomach and smiled. Eight weeks. I was eight weeks pregnant. And according to the healer, everything looked healthy. I had discovered the pregnancy three days earlier after experiencing dizziness and morning sickness. At first, I couldn’t believe it. For years, Eleanor had called me barren. Some pack members even whispered that the Moon Goddess had cursed our union. But now, I was carrying Vincent’s child. Our child. I imagined his reaction when I told him. Perhaps he would smile like he used to. Perhaps he would finally hold me again. Maybe becoming parents would bring us closer. I knew a baby couldn’t magically repair a broken marriage, but I desperately wanted to believe we still had a chance. “Clara, bring me the gift box.” She hurried toward the cabinet and returned with a small white box tied with a golden ribbon. Inside were two tiny baby shoes and a handwritten note. Happy anniversary, Daddy. See you in seven months. I smiled through the tears gathering in my eyes. “He’s going to be so happy.” Clara squeezed my hand. “I hope so, Luna.” I ignored the uncertainty in her voice. Tonight would be perfect. It had to be. By seven o’clock, everything was ready. I wore the emerald-green dress Vincent had bought me during our first year together. It was his favorite. Or at least, it used to be. I arranged my hair, applied a little lipstick, and waited. Seven became eight. Eight became nine. The candles burned lower. The food grew cold. Still, Vincent didn’t come. I called his phone. No answer. I sent him a message. Happy anniversary, my love. I’m waiting for you at home. I have something important to tell you. The message was delivered. But he didn’t reply. At ten o’clock, I finally stopped pretending I wasn’t hurt. “Perhaps Alpha Vincent is busy,” Clara said gently. I nodded. “Yes. He’s probably busy.” But my voice sounded empty. I stared at the untouched food. Three years ago, Vincent would have abandoned any meeting just to spend an hour with me. Now, he couldn’t even remember our anniversary. I reached for the little gift box. “Maybe tomorrow,” I whispered. Suddenly, my phone vibrated. My heart jumped. Vincent! I quickly grabbed it. But the message wasn’t from my husband. It was from Marcus, his Beta. Luna Nadia, report to the council hall immediately. By order of Alpha Vincent. I frowned. The council hall? At this hour? I immediately called Marcus, but he didn’t answer. Something was wrong. I grabbed my coat and hurried outside. The moment I entered the council hall, I knew something terrible had happened. Several pack guards stood near the entrance. The elders were gathered around a bed. And lying on that bed was Adrian. Vincent’s younger brother. His face was pale, and his breathing sounded weak. Two healers stood beside him. “What happened?” I gasped. Nobody answered. I hurried toward Adrian. “Adrian? Can you hear me?” “Stay away from him!” Elder Gregory’s angry voice stopped me. I turned around. “What?” “You have done enough damage, Luna Nadia.” My stomach tightened. “I don’t understand.” Gregory stepped forward. “Adrian was poisoned earlier this evening.” I covered my mouth. “Poisoned?” “With wolfsbane.” My blood ran cold. Wolfsbane was extremely dangerous to werewolves. In large quantities, it could kill even a powerful Alpha. “Oh, Goddess.” I looked toward Adrian. “Will he survive?” “That depends,” Gregory replied coldly. “On what?” “Whether you tell us what you gave him.” I stared at him. “What are you talking about?” Another elder stepped forward. “We have witnesses who saw you near Adrian’s office this afternoon.” “Of course I was there! I delivered some documents Vincent asked me to prepare.” “And what else did you deliver?” “Nothing!” Gregory raised his hand. A guard approached, holding a small transparent evidence bag. Inside was a dark bottle. “Do you recognize this?” I shook my head. “No.” “It was discovered among your belongings.” My heart stopped. “That’s impossible.” “The bottle contains wolfsbane.” I stepped backward. “No. Someone must have planted it!” Gregory laughed bitterly. “How convenient.” “I didn’t poison Adrian!” “Then explain why he collapsed shortly after drinking the tea you delivered.” My eyes widened. “I didn’t bring him tea! A servant was already there when I arrived!” The elders exchanged suspicious glances. “Enough lies,” Gregory snapped. Panic rose inside me. Someone was framing me. But why? Before I could speak again, the doors opened. Heavy footsteps echoed through the hall. Vincent entered. My husband. My mate. The man I loved more than anything. Relief flooded through me. “Vincent!” I rushed toward him. “Thank goodness you’re here! Something terrible has happened. They’re accusing me of poisoning Adrian!” Vincent stopped. His handsome face was completely expressionless. I reached for his hand. “Please, tell them I would never do something like that.” He looked down at my fingers. Then he pulled his hand away. My smile disappeared. “Vincent?” “Did you enter Adrian’s office today?” His voice was cold. “Yes, but—” “Did you bring him anything?” “Only the documents you asked me to deliver.” He stared at me. “Adrian is fighting for his life.” Tears filled my eyes. “I know. I’m worried about him too.” “Then why did they find wolfsbane in your room?” “I don’t know!” My voice cracked. “Vincent, someone is trying to frame me. You have to believe me.” For a moment, I searched his eyes for the man who once promised to protect me. But all I saw was anger. I moved closer. “Please, Vincent. I’m your wife.” He pushed me away. I stumbled backward. A shocked silence filled the hall. My hand instinctively moved toward my stomach. Our baby. I needed to tell him. Maybe then he would listen. “Vincent, there’s something important I need to—” “Enough!” His shout made me flinch. “I’ve heard enough of your lies.” My heart shattered. “Vincent, please!” He turned toward the guards. “Arrest her.” Two guards immediately approached me. I stared at my husband in disbelief. “Vincent, I’m your mate!” He looked directly into my eyes. His next words destroyed the last piece of hope inside me. “Not anymore.”
