Chapter 2 Irony Never Lost on Me

1241 Words
"Ivy..." Sebastian rushed to the tent with the flashlight on his cell phone. When he saw me, he stretched out his long arm, grabbed the back of my neck, and pulled me into his arms. "I saw the light was off. Ivy, aren't you afraid of the dark? You must have been so scared?" The elegant scent of cedar surrounded me. My nose felt pinched at the smell now. I pushed Sebastian away, my voice emotionless yet cold, “I'm not feeling the best, and I think my period is coming soon. I think I should go home before I get sick." “Leave? But didn't you tell me that you had a special birthday gift for me, Ivy?" Tomorrow is Sebastian's 27th birthday. At midnight, I had planned to tell him that we were expecting our first pup together and had anticipated that it would be our time to celebrate and plan our future together. His Alpha wolf still hadn't found his mate, so I thought he would be claiming me. It had always been my deepest wish for Sebastian and me; to me, carrying his heir was a testament to his claim and love. Earlier that morning, before we left to go camping, the doctor who examined me reminded me that I was already five weeks pregnant and it's best not to have s*x in the early stages of pregnancy. Which was why I wanted only to snuggle. To satisfy Sebastian, I had just risked it with him. He did keep his word earlier and was much gentler than usual. I thought it was because he cared. Until I realized the truth. Hmph. I looked at him. The man I thought my world could never be without. Yet, now I didn't even recognize him anymore. I began to question everything he had ever told me. Sebastian was the firstborn of the McGregor family in the Whispering Willows Pack. He was too handsome, and he knew it. He was six feet, two inches tall, with sharp features and dark eyes like melting pools of milk chocolate. His reputation as a playboy added a touch of rascal charm, making him irresistible. It's a pity that under this flawless external image lies a disgusting, self-serving human being! I no longer planned to tell him about the pregnancy. "I'm so tired. Maybe my period is coming soon. I can't wait until midnight. Can I give it to you tomorrow?" Sebastian frowned slightly. On his birthday last year, despite having a high fever, I stayed up until midnight to give him a gift and wish him a happy birthday first. I saw the brief flicker of suspicion and conflict in his enchanting eyes. However, in the end, Sebastian smiled and kissed my forehead. "It's my fault for not thinking. Human females have delicate bodies; they can't stand the cold and damp outdoors. I'll send you back." I hated the reminder that, despite being born into an Alpha bloodline, I was always human in everyone's eyes. "No need. You have many friends here." Sebastian hugged me, "We've been sneaking around like this. It's driving me crazy." Is he trying to coax me again? If he weren't the Alpha heir of the McGregory family, I guarantee that he could win an Oscar with his performances. I forced myself to smile softly, "It's only a month and a half. I want to make it public at the engagement." Sebastian must be looking forward to the engagement party in a month and a half, right? He must be looking forward to ruining me, getting back at my Alpha female sister for rejecting him, and tearing down my family and pack! But I wouldn't allow such a thing to happen. I made this mess, and I will clean it up. I would get my revenge. He enjoyed playing his games and made me believe we could be something more than a dirty secret, that there was love between us. Fine, then I would make him truly fall in love with me, and then abandon him at the engagement party. Sebastian wanted to take me back to our shared luxury apartment himself, but I refused. I had driven here by myself. The car was a limited-edition MaDaniti that Sebastian had given me. Sitting in the luxurious driver's seat, I curled my lips in a mocking smirk. This car costs just under $500,000. Sebastian really went to great lengths to take down the River's Run pack. Even buy me flashy trinkets and toys. This car once glided with precision when I was behind the wheel, but the truth now tainted it. It felt no better than a soapbox derby car with hubcap wheels. Of course, the great Alpha-heir Sebastian was a playboy and always generous to females who pleased him. Any female who had a scandal with him had never said a bad word about him behind his back; instead, they all spoke highly of him. Cheap, the whole lot of them. Was there no honour in the girl code? No warnings for others? After what I just learned, he was nothing but toxic poison. Perhaps he was so hung up on Danielle because, in the past, none of his pursuits had ever rejected him or revealed harsh truths about him. As for the female he got married to, I had no idea who she could have been. He has always kept a distance from other females to prove that we were exclusive. To be honest, I didn't care who she was. She can have him. Just thinking about how long this game of his has been going on, I stepped hard on the gas pedal. The car drifted around the bend, making a beautiful turn and then straightened out. All of our moments flashed in my head. I couldn't help but recall what happened when I met Sebastian. It must have been all his plan. My heart was filled with an intense pain, which could only be suppressed by the speed and the roar of the engine. I drove to our home. I glanced up at our large balcony as I stepped out of the car in my assigned parking stall. My eyes were drawn to the custom-made flower pots. Sebastian was not only decisive in pack business and politics but also a talented carpenter. He was able to build anything with just a rough idea in mind. His work was beautiful. My phone rang. Danielle calling. Danielle was always sharp and cutthroat. So many females were dazzled by Sebastian, but only Danielle regarded him as dirt. Now I understand why. I wish she had told me years ago. I wouldn’t have made this mistake if I had known. Suddenly, I felt a faint pain in my lower abdomen. I paused for a moment and answered the call. "Ivy, I'm visiting Vancouver tomorrow to discuss an investment with a small pack. My flight arrives at five pm. Come pick me up at the airport, and we'll have dinner together. My treat." "Okay." My throat felt a little choked. Danielle's tone turned concerned. "Did you catch a cold?" "No. It was windy, so my nose is stuffy with allergies." "It's getting late. Don't go outside. Go back to rest early. See you tomorrow." "Dani." I rushed out to my sister in panic. "What's wrong?" She caught my tone. "Why do you hate Sebastian and the Whispering Willow Pack so much?"
