Chapter 18: Syd Meets the CreatureIn the bathroom, Syd rinsed his face and the cold water cleared up his mind a little. When he looked up at his reflection, he was startled by what he saw. For a second, he thought he’d been looking straight at his old man. Same haunted gray-blue eyes. Same tension in the jaw line.
An hour ago, he’d checked out the powder in the small plastic bag Rudi had dropped on the bed. Classic Diazepam. Yes, it was Valium. He knew his drugs and that powder was nothing but what Rudi had said it was. He’d tasted it, even. That stuff was as harmless to him as a glass of Seven Up was to an alcoholic.
How had he’d been supposed to know? Right? Why hadn’t Rudi been upfront with him about it instead of sneaking the pills into his drink?
