Chapter 31: Rudi Actually Loves Syd’s Novel (and Syd)It had been so long.
He didn’t even know if Syd would want to talk to him. The man was a New York Times best seller. They were calling Syd the new King of fiction.
Rudi stood at the back of the overcrowded bookstore, waiting for the last of the fans to leave Syd’s table. He gazed around anxiously. The front window had been done up with deer antlers and fake snow, and Syd’s bestseller was propped up in display. Inside the store, a whole wall was stacked with Syd’s books.
“Oh, he’s gorgeous,” a young woman said to her friend, as they walked by Rudi. “Did you see his eyes?”
Rudi couldn’t help chuckling a little. Yes, Syd was still a looker, all right. He could see him from where he stood, all clad in black, wearing a know-it-all smirk,
