Chapter4

Talia's POV Iaana drove her claws to its head, repeatedly shrugging it back in its relentless attack. One thing was for certain, it wanted me dead. The fight was purely on survival instinct as Iaana was prepared to fight for our survival. Just then Dixlan came bursting forth, chasing it out through the balcony and into the open fields. We watched as Dixlan repeatedly threw it to the ground, slashing and biting through its fur. Although we longed to join him in his fight against the intruder, we sustained injuries. The fight was serious. Both were of almost equal strength with Dixlan slightly having the upper hand. Showing why he is the Alpha, he sunk his teeth deep into the ribs of the he-wolf making him howl in pain and retreating into the darkness before Lucian armies would catch up. Lucian immediately ordered all quarters guarded, and all premises watched. It was quite an ordeal for me knowing some powerful wolf had just tried to murder me. “Who was that Lucian?” I asked. “My older brother,” He responded. I was amazed with my mouth wide open. Lost for some seconds as I tried to piece the words back together. A brother? I had been in Castle Black for days and not a word about the Alpha's brother had been brought up. It was quite awkward to me that the first time I knew Lucian's brother was the first time he tried to murder me. “And why is your brother trying to kill me?” I questioned. “Well, He is quite jealous and mad that the goddess chose me to be the leader of the pack instead of him as the rightful heir.” “He must have heard that I have found a mate who I'm ready to make my Luna and wants to use this means to make me suffer.” “And this is why you must be careful. Never leave without your guards,” He said. “I don't need guards to protect myself,” I boasted. “Of course you do not. Not all who stood against Nimeria lived to tell the tale.” “It seems there's more to Iaana than the eye tells.” I could feel Iaana's pride rising after being complimented by Lucian. “With a bit of training, you just might be the strongest wolf in the realm,” He concluded. Just then, Norman, Lucian's Beta, entered the room with a worried look. “Alpha Lucian, there has been a report of some activities going on at the barrier.” Said Norman. The look on Lucian's face said it all. His brows twitched, twisting the skin on his forehead and alarmingly squinting his eyes. His heartbeat paced a lot faster than normal. The sudden appearance of his brother hadn't phased him as much as this did. Whatever activities were going on at the barrier were something to worry about. “Are you sure about this?” Lucian replied. “Dexter personally reported the matter to me.” Said Norman. “You know Dexter is somewhat of a paranoia. Tell the Senial, Vivian, to go check it out.” Lucian ordered. “Alpha Lucian, we've got serious movements down at the barrier that require immediate attention.” One of the Senial, Kylian, had badge his way into the room with seriousness on his face. “Where is Vivian?” Questioned Lucian. “She has taken Scott, Kol, Adrian and a few other Senails to the barrier to watch out for any incoming Chimera,” Kylian answered. “Incoming what?” I exclaimed. “Impossible! Chimaeras are not real.” I retorted. They all gave me a discerning look, each with a different complexity. Still, my thoughts were of its impossibility. Yes, I had heard of its tales, a wolf-like creature with a scorpion tail, powerful as an Alpha. These were stories my mother would tell us every night right before bedtime. It was impossible to believe these creatures existed. But this was real and the look on their faces said it all. “Yes, they are!” Lucian responded. “Long ago when the realms were united, each pack had joined forces, united against a common enemy and had forced these beasts into the hollow, sealing the barrier with the moonstone.” “And where is this moonstone?” I asked. “It was last reported to be safe at the edge of the realm.” Answered Lucian. “The last one we fought that had made its way through the barrier was a few weeks ago when I found you almost dead at the Krakenstone.” He said. I let out another gasp. “I again?” I thought. “What has this got to do with me?” I reasoned. “It seems you, my dear, might just be at the centre of things.” Said Lucian. “The next Lunar Uprising might be closer than we assume,” Norman replied. “It seems the prophecies are right,” Kylian added. The prophecies again, and to think all these began with my arrival threw me back. “Alpha Lucian, the sorceress demands your presence in the attic.” One of the Lucian soldiers called. I could see the worrisome look on all their faces. I had come to know that no one is ever happy when the sorceress's name is mentioned. Curious as to what she had to say, I had offered to accompany them, which He refused but I did anyway. If I were going to be the next Luna of this pack I might as well take up the responsibilities accompanied with it. Not long after we left we encountered the Senial Vivian and the elites that went with her. They had returned battered and bruised. Whatever it was, it had put up a strong fight, strong enough to hold off strong elite wolves. “Status report Vivian.” Commanded Lucian. “The barrier is weak, Alpha; it tore through. Never have I seen it that weak.” “We faced it, five to one tore through its skin and chopped off its tail, and when we thought it was over, the barrier began banging again for the second time.” “Another came through; we had no time to regroup. Alpha, Stefan is dead.” Vivian reported. “What are we to do, Alpha?” Lucian's Beta asked. The air was tense, a dire matter at hand that needed immediate attention. Whatever was coming through needed to be stopped. A Chimera roamed free, no one was safe. It needed tracking. Lucian signalled for a hunt; he was going after the Chimera. Iaana was fully aroused; she had begun transforming before the others could. She would not be left behind, not when we stood at the centre of things.
