The warmth struck her first. River stirred beneath the soft sheets, her skin flushed and cheeks tinged with heat. For a moment, she thought it was the lingering haze of dreams, but then she froze. A weight—solid, powerful, unmoving—pressed against her back. She turned her head slightly and caught the sight of a muscled arm wrapped tightly around her waist. Heiko. Her breath caught. She was nestled into his chest, cradled as though she belonged there. His scent surrounded her—earth, spice, and something wild beneath the surface. Her pulse quickened. Oh Moon… She blushed furiously, moving as carefully as she could to shift, but he was immovable. Like a mountain made of heat and strength. Her fingers twitched as she dared to lift the corner of the blanket and peek toward the window.
