The priest's eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at the altar. His voice trembled slightly as he muttered, "This... this has never happened before."
"The bond... It should have been severed. The moon goddess, she... She does not agree to the rupture of this bond."
"What do you mean, the moon goddess does not agree?" I asked. "I thought this ritual was meant to break the mate bond. Why would she not allow it?"
The priest sighed heavily, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "The bond between mates is a sacred and profound connection, forged by the moon goddess herself. It is not something easily severed, especially if the goddess does not deem it necessary. She must have a higher purpose in mind, one that surpasses our understanding."
