“Jack,” Julie started, hands sweaty and knees almost wobbling. “I know. I know. God, I know!” He let out a humorless laugh and raked a nervous hand through his hair. All the while, he was stuffing his bag with more of his things. What have I done? She chastised herself. How could I act so recklessly? She had no clue how to explain her wanton desire to give her everything to her adoptive brother. “Do you think I’m blind?” He glared at her briefly before resuming his task. “Believe me. I’m not. You looked way too put together, way too calm after your talk with your dear Henry!” The way he spat out the name almost made her flinch. What had she done? “I…” “Don’t you dare say you’re sorry. I know you’re not. Not really. You may be sorry for hurting me but not for what you did.”
