I started calling him Daddy all the time after that day. I had done that a little when he had first married my Mom, but mostly to tease him. It was still to tease him now, but in a totally different way. The word had made him shoot in his pants. I smiled at the memory. “You’re in a good mood today,” Mom said as I walked into the kitchen. “I finally got some laundry done. I feel like I have accomplished something.” “If you got your laundry done, why are you still walking around in your jammies?” “They’re comfortable, Mom.” Mom rolled her eyes. “I have a book club tonight, so you and Mitch are on your own for dinner tonight.” “Okay, Mom, I can fix dinner,” I said.
