Chapter 1 “Damn, can you believe that the Luna has been gone for a year,” Warlord said to this bounty hunter comrades. “I know. It’s good to have her home, though. Watching the Alpha mope about was getting depressing,” Fury replied. “How is it that the moment she gets home, he and Gamma get blown to bits?” Poseidon asks and shakes his head. “The life of being a supernatural,” Carter replied. The guys were walking through the packhouse after coming home from the office when they heard the front door opening and saw Allie coming in with Simba and Leroy right behind her. “I wonder where the Luna was at all day?” Warlord questioned. The others thought nothing of it, but when Carter sensed the Luna, something else caught his attention, and his wolf, Jasper, reacted before Carter could even blink. Jasper took over Carter, and he rushed Allie, bypassing the unsuspecting Simba and Leroy. “AHHH!!!” “Carter, what the f*ck!?” Warlord shouted. “What is he doing?!” Aries and Brandon, who happened to be coming down the stairs, witnessed the entire thing. “GET OFF OF ME!” Allie screamed in her Luna tone, but it was to no avail. Brandon charged Carter, thinking that he was attacking Allie out of nowhere. But Allie realized that Carter wasn’t hurting her, but rather, he was inappropriately sniffing her. Brandon grabbed Carter by the shoulders and threw him across the living room. He landed on the floor hard, but his haze was still in full force. He got to his feet and tried to go after Allie again, but Warlord and Fury got hold of him and kept him back. Aries, in order to get a grip, socked him across the face, knocking him to the ground again. This time, Carter was able to gather his senses. Leroy and Simba took a protective stance in front of Allie while everyone else was trying their best not to kill the now confused Carter, whose lip was busted open and had a black eye. The commotion grabbed the attention of Sin and Simba’s mate, Katie, from the kitchen, and they came rushing out. “What the f*ck is going on!?” Sin questioned. “Babe, what’s happening?” Katie asked Simba. “CARTER F*CKING ATTACKED THE LUNA!” Simba roared, half a second away from killing Carter. Sin and Katie were shocked to hear this. “He didn’t attack me!” Allie shouted from behind Leroy and Simba. She was trying to push them aside, but their sheer size made it nearly impossible for her to do so. “What happened exactly?” Sin asked. “He pushed past us and slammed the Luna against the door!” Leroy explained, his anger rising with every passing second. “Ugh! Will you two get out of my way!?” Allie grunted and shoved her guards as if she were splitting the Red Sea. Simba and Leroy ended up stumbling forward, but they managed to catch themselves. “Carter! You have three seconds to f*cking explain yourself!” Brandon demanded in his Beta tone. “B…Be…Beta, I—I—I have no idea what came over me. I swear. I meant harm to the Luna. I would never hurt her!” Carter quickly explained in an attempt to rectify the situation. He truly had no idea what had gotten over his wolf, Jasper. Why did her scent entice us like that? He thought to himself, not realizing that Sin was present. Sin scrutinized him, and her power of mind reading allowed her to hear Carter’s thoughts. “What do you mean, Allie’s scent enticed you?” Sin questioned out of the blue. This caught everyone else’s attention, and they all snapped their heads to look down at Carter, who, in turn, was staring at Sin in sheer horror. “What? That’s what you were thinking just now. Why did her scent tempt you? She’s not in heat, and she’s definitely not pregnant. So, what’s up?” Sin asked again. Carter gulped, unable to answer right away. But he knew if he didn’t say something, or anything, it would get even worse for him. “I have no idea,” Carter answered. “I really have no clue as to why her scent would tempt me. It was as if my wolf and I were caught in a trance the moment she walked in. I didn’t even realize I did anything until I was thrown back, and even then, I couldn’t stop myself from trying to reach her again. Whoever hit me in the face knocked some sense into me.” “That would be me,” Aries said. “Um, but yeah, nothing really dawned on me until you hit me,” Carter told Aries. Everyone creased their brows and looked at Carter as if he had grown three heads. “Does she not attract you now?” Leah, who had been standing silently on the staircase, asked. Carter looked at Leah, then back at Allie, who had a blank expression on her face. He took a few sniffs and shook his head. “I mean, she does, but whatever caught my attention a moment ago is starting to fade?” Carter said, confusing everyone in the process, himself included. “Yo, Gizmo, have you come into contact with anyone?” Brandon asked Allie, trying to figure out what was going on. Allie thought about it for a moment and shook her head. “Other than these guys, no,” she answered while pointing between Leroy and Simba, her guards. “Luna, that’s not true. We spent time with your cousin and went shopping with her before you went to hang out with her at her new apartment, remember? Then we went to see the Alpha in the hospital,” Leroy respectfully corrected her. “Gizmo, if you spent time with your cousin, her scent could be lingering on you,” Brandon told her. “What?” everyone questioned in unison at Brandon’s statement. Brandon rolled his eyes. “Carter was reacting to Sarah’s scent!” Brandon flat-out said. His words registered in Allie’s mind first, and it threw her for a loop. “HOLD UP!!!” Allie shouted and waved her hands. “Are you trying to tell me that my HUMAN cousin is his mate!?” Allie questioned in revulsion while pointing at an even more confused Carter. Brandon nodded. Everyone stood there dumbfounded, unable to comprehend what was happening. But something dawned on Sin and made her cringe. “Oh, f*ck,” Sin muttered, garnering everyone’s attention. “What is it, Gamma?” Katie asked Sin. “Biiitch, this is bad on more than one level,” Sin said directly to Allie. “Why?” Allie questioned and quirked a brow. “One, you just said it, your cousin is human. Two, the few of us that know her can barely tolerate her as it is for obvious reasons.” This statement made Allie scowl at Sin. “And three, she’s f*cking pregnant!” “SHE’S WHAT!?” Carter roared. “Come on, Sin!” Allie grumbled and pinched the bridge of her nose. “Is this some kind of sick joke!?” Carter shouted and jumped to his feet, wiping off the dried blood from his busted lip. “My mate? The one who’s supposed to be for me! Wasn’t even made for me!? She’s f*cking pregnant with another man’s child!?” “Carter…” Allie could see the pain and anger in his eyes. She wanted to tell him that Sarah was divorced and that it would all be okay, but deep down, even she didn’t know if it would be. “Is the Moon Goddess playing a sick and twisted joke on me!? A knocked-up human!? What the f*ck!?” Carter cried out in disbelief. “Hey! That’s my cousin you’re talking about, Carter!” Allie growled. “I don’t give a flying f*ck, Luna!” Carter snapped back. Under normal circumstances, his lashing out that way to a ranked member would immediately result in a punishment; however, Allie couldn’t blame him and decided to sweep it under the rug. “The Moon Goddess must really hate us former rogues, huh!?” Carter barked, his tone laced with sarcasm and hurt. He pushed Warlord and Fury away from him and stormed out of the packhouse. Carter shifted into Jasper and took off. “F*cking hell,” Allie grumbled. “Guys, follow him, and make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid,” Aries told the other bounty hunters. Warlord, Fury, and Poseidon nodded and went after Carter to ensure he didn’t do anything rash or drastic. Those who were left looked at each other in utter incredulity. “What just happened?” Katie questioned. “It looks like the Moon Goddess just gave Carter one big fat f*ck you,” Brandon replied. “What the hell is she thinking!?” Allie shouted in shock, hanging her head back, unable to swallow what had just occurred. “She has her reasons,” Leah dismissively said. Allie just looked at her. “What? Is it a bad thing that your cousin is mated to Carter?” “That’s not what I’m getting at, Leah.” “Then why are you so upset, Gizmo?” Brandon asked. “She’s pregnant with her ex’s baby! A human baby! She’s human, too!” “And? So were you and Sin,” Leah replied. “That’s different. We weren’t divorced and halfway through a pregnancy,” Allie countered. “There’s not much we can do about this, Gizmo,” Brandon said, trying to placate her. “I can’t do this. This is too much, too soon,” Allie grumbled and left the packhouse as well. “Hey, where are you going!?” Sin asked, but Allie completely ignored her. “Leroy, go with her,” Simba said. Leroy nodded and went after Allie. “Luna, where are you going?” he asked as he caught up with her. “Hospital. I need to talk to Dorian about this.” “Allow me to drive you then,” Leroy respectfully offered and sent a quick mindlink to Simba to inform him of Allie’s movements. “Oh, Leroy just linked me saying the Luna is going to go see the Alpha, again,” Simba told the others. “Babe, what do we do about Carter?” Katie asked Simba. “There’s nothing we can do, cupcake. It’s up to him to decide if he wants to accept a human as a mate.” “But she’s also pregnant,” Katie added. “Yeah. That’s what makes it even more difficult.” “Why are you guys talking as if her being pregnant is some kind of huge issue?” Sin asked them. “Because it can be, Sin,” Brandon said. Sin looked at him in confusion. “Come on, let’s all go to the dining room, and I will explain what I mean. I’m sure Dorian is going to explain the same thing to Gizmo when she tells him what just happened here.” “What about Carter?” “The guys can handle him,” Aries replied.
