I watched her walk away, the soft sway of her dress disappearing into the crowd like a dream slipping through my fingers.
Damn it.
I had one chance, one perfect moment, and I blew it. The words I’d rehearsed all week and the feelings I’d carried like a weight in my chest crumbled the second she showed up.
“Justy, are you even listening?” Cassie’s voice broke through the fog of my thoughts, syrupy and sharp all at once.
I barely glanced at her, jaw clenched. “Not now.” Damn it, why now of all times? Why her of all people? How did Cassie even find us? I didn't tell anyone I was coming here. Damn it, I felt so frustrated. Remembering the look on her face when she saw Cassie being all over me just killed me.
