CHAPTER EIGHT Good luck with Mr. Laurent. Hey honey. How did the meeting with Mr. Laurent go? Did he bore you with some cuisine again? You’d never shut up about those before. Anyway, call or text me once you are done. I have a few ideas for tonight. You must be busy, but what do you think about ordering in some Chinese tonight? We could watch a movie of your choice and who knows if we’d still have our clothes on by the time its over? Its me again. So hear me out on this one, instead of us ordering in, how about I make us dinner? I already gave Rena the rest of the day off. We have the house to ourselves and tomorrow she won’t be in either. We can stay up as late as we want. So I’m assuming you are still busy with Mr. Laurent but I saw this sexy lingerie and I want it on you tonight. Text me back as soon as you see this, okay? I love you, Honey. “Love me my ass,” I cussed under my breath, sipping the last of the Rum swizzle in my glass as I glared at my phone. I had promised myself I wouldn’t think about him or even look at the messages he sent me, but all it took was a few sips of my Rum Swizzle and I couldn’t fight against my thoughts of Dane anymore. “Are you okay?” Raymond questioned, and I looked up to find the three of them looking at me with concern. Given that it was only six in the evening, the club was barely loud and nor was it full. This was supposed to be some fun, distracting time hanging out with my friends who I’d barely been in touch with and all I could think of was my husband. What a fun way to ruin the evening. “Yes, I’m fine. Just something about work, but I’ll sort it out on Monday,” I shrugged, pushing the phone inside my purse. A grimace left my lips when I looked at my empty glass. “A rum swizzle, really? What happened to you?” Dotty questioned. “Well, for starters, I’m the CEO of a company and I’m married now. I can’t just let myself get completely wasted in a public place like this. What if someone from work sees me? Or perhaps someone who knows my in-laws? I have a reputation to guard,” I said as a matter-fact. I could no longer be the reckless girl I was back in college. “Oh, please. You were such a party animal in college and not once did you misbehave or even lose your virginity unlike me,” Racheal rolled her eyes, something she seemed to be doing a lot tonight. Raymond suddenly stood up, walked to the bar, whispered something to the bartender then came back with an amused smirk dancing on his lips. Oh no, I did not like that look. Barely a few minutes later, glasses of tequila shots were lined up on the table and when I looked up to protest, my eyes connected with the bartender. “Miss,” Someone kill me now. “Hmm?” Maybe if I played dumb, he’d leave us alone. When did he even get here? He wasn’t at the counter when we came in. “Its me. Julian from last night-“ “That would be all, Julian,” I said, cutting him off before he said too much. The last thing I wanted was my friends to find out that the love my marriage presented was no fairy take at all. “What was that?” Dotty had always been keen. “What was what?” I questioned, pulling on my favorite confused expression. “That. Oh my God! Are you cheating on Dane? Did you sleep with that hot bartender? How could you do that to your husband? He loves you so much and as much-“ “What? No, Dotty. I did not sleep with the bartender, okay?” How could she even think of something that ridiculous? I was not the kind to cheat and she of all people should know that. I respected the sanctity of marriage so much and would never do anything to taint it. “Oh. Then what was that about?” she pestered on. “Nothing serious. He accidentally spilled a drink on me yesterday. I-I was here with an old client who was thinking of resigning with my company,” I shrugged. Perfect lie. I had cultivated the art of forming lies at the tip of my tongue and in the past few days, I’d told more lies in my life than I ever thought possible. “Was it Gucci? Must have been. Anyway, shots!” Racheal screamed in excitement. I reached for one, feeling my nerves weighing in on me,” Well, time to spice things up,” If I can’t shake my husband and the thought he could possibly be cheating on me right now with some woman he happens to still be in love with, then maybe I could drink myself to oblivion and call Rodriguez to come pick me up. That had to be one of the perks of having a driver on your payroll.
