In the morning Briar woke to the feeling of Liev leaving the bed and found herself wondering when he had even gotten into it. She started to sit up and he reached back and touched her shoulder.
“Shh, go back to sleep, Briar. I’m going to get up and get Hadlee ready for school and take her in.”
“I can do it.” Her voice was still raspy but definitely improved over the day prior.
“I know you can, but I want you to rest this morning. Please,” he rounded the bed and squatted next to her. “I’m her dad and I should be able to do this while you rest.” He brushed her hair off her face. “I’ll get her to school and then I’ll come back and sit with you for the day.”
