Nila looked at him dumbfounded. Before Nila could answer, Dage took off in a run, not knowing where he was going. He heard Nila call out to someone. He ignored her. He followed her scent. It led him to what look like an underground kitchen. Even through the spices and cooking smells he could smell her. He didn’t notice anyone in the kitchen. Pots were left steaming on a large coal stove. It looked like the place had been hastily evacuated. Dage walked to the small door and opened it.
Zaya couldn’t believe her eyes as the door to the pantry swung open to reveal her mate. Something dangerous and wicked flickered in his eyes. She stared at him. His skin changed from dark-brown to black and back again in a blink of an eye, giving her glimpses of his jackal. It was ferocious and strong.
