Music poured from the palace and danced on the night's wind. From my window, I could see the luminescent light from the party, creating a soft glow. The wooden floorboards creaked as I shifted my weight, the small room was lonely without her presence. I had always resented the four brick walls that imprisoned me. This drafty room had housed me all my life, giving me a perfect view of the life I could've had without this curse. Nine years ago, I made excuses for the family whom I had never seen. I imagined my father searching for ways to cure me, my mother crying at my absence, and my younger brother dreaming of the day he could meet me.  I was sorely mistaken. I wasn't placed in this decrepit tower to protect anyone. I was thrown in here to be forgotten, and I was. I lived like a dead rat
