Chapter 10 – Charmed

1301 Words
Clyde went to meet Alpha Wade afterwards. Jared returned to his new place while Patrick went back to work. “He didn’t try to kill the man, did he?” Wade asked as soon as he saw the younger alpha. His lip twitched. He really thought that? “You made me curious. What’s the worst scenario you anticipated?” Wade shrugged, “I suppose I expected him to assert his dominance. Challenge him into a fight or something. Beat him up and take the man’s daughter forcibly. But then again, this is Snow Mountain. He can’t do such a thing without serious repercussions. But I don’t know. He can be unpredictable at times. He would have no regard for rules. He already did, didn’t he?” “When are you leaving?” Clyde noticed that he has packed his luggage already. “In a few hours. I’ll be leaving two of my men to watch over Jared. They’re no match to him, though. They’re just here to send me regular reports, so I’ll know what he’d been doing. You can do whatever is necessary to keep him in line. Punish him if he breaks any rule.” “I’ll do that. Will you be seeing him before you go?” “Yes. I have a few parting words for him. I apologize for the trouble he made.” “When Polly goes to Blood Moon, just make sure she’s taken care of.” “Of course.” Wade went to see Jared. “Still here? I thought you already left.” Jared smirked at his old man. Wade narrowed his eyes on him, not bothering to take a seat. He won’t stay long anyway. They’ll be leaving after this conversation. “Tomorrow, you’re allowed to go out. Patrick expects you to go see his daughter, but her parents will be there as well. They’ll supervise the two of you for at least a week, just to make sure you’re not going to be a threat to her.” Jared’s expression soured. How is he a threat to his own mate? Do they really expect him to be such an asshole? “Control your temper well. You can’t explode in front of them. This period should teach you to be more patient, to be more attentive and considerate of other people. I came here to tell you I’ll be taking the reins back and lead Blood Moon. I’m still the Alpha, after all. The way you do things . . . I’ll put a stop to them. You can’t not listen to other people’s suggestion. You-” “You listen to them, they think they can influence you. Have you heard how stupid their ideas were? If you do as they said, you would lose your battles.” Jared immediately countered him. “But to dismiss their ideas so arrogantly? You have to explain. That way, they can also learn. If their ideas are stupid, then dissect it. What makes them stupid? You can’t simply degrade others and treat them like trash. You can’t just impose total obedience. They’re bound to question you. If you oppress them too much, it’s only a matter of time before they rise up against you.” “Do I look like I care? They can think whatever they like, but when it comes to pack matters, all they need to do is follow my command.” Wade sighed. He didn’t listen. “Should I let you experience what it’s like? From now on, the pack will heed my commands, not yours. I’m giving you the time to think properly, but if you keep being stubborn and believing you’re correct about it all, then you give me no choice. You’re not fit to become the pack’s alpha. If you still want the position, then you’ll listen to me and change your ways. You have at least a month.” The moment he mentioned his son is not fit to lead, Jared’s glare became menacing. He’s used to it, though. When he was younger, Jared was much more troublesome than he is now. “Huh, you can’t just decide like that. I’m your eldest. The position is my birthright.” “Birthright or not, I’m not letting someone unfit to lead the pack. You better sort yourself out.” Jared was so mad, he let out a chuckle. “What? You’re going to make James your heir? He’s worse than those idiots.” Wade showed him his own glare. “You only know to criticize other people but not yourself. You should take a good long look into a mirror. You have plenty of flaws you keep ignoring. You better control your temper. Reflect on the things I’ve told you just now. I hope to see you with a better perspective, Jared.” Wade turned and left the house. The moment he closed the door, he heard a crashing sound. Something just hit the door. He sighed. He expected as much. Jared cursed him in his head. He just had to come and irritate the hell out of him. He was so angry about the things he revealed to him. He felt that it was sudden. He didn’t think that his father was actually considering to replace him. It was absurd. James wouldn’t be able to command the men in their pack. He has a soft personality. Jared began to laugh. His father must be joking. No one is better than him. He’s still the best choice to lead the pack. He’ll show him. He paced the length of the living room. He’s tempted to leave with them. His father surely timed it well. Can he leave Snow Mountain without his mate? No. It won’t feel right. He would be bothered by thoughts of her. He needs her to come with him. Ugh. He’s really angry. He tried to assure himself. No way would James succeed. The men wouldn’t obey that weakling. He started to calm down with those thoughts. He finally sat and began to contemplate. Tomorrow, he can go out and see his mate. Well, he’s looking forward to that. Heh, he shouldn’t worry about James. His younger brother never did have the ambition to become alpha. For now, he should focus on coaxing his mate. Polly. He can’t believe that’s her actual name. Is it short for something else? It sounds childish if it’s just Polly. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes and leaned back on the couch. He wanted to see her. He wanted to touch her. He wanted to kiss her. Ugh. He groaned before getting up. He became restless again. Jared squinted at the door. If his father already left, why must he wait until tomorrow? Can’t he go out now? He roughly pulled the door open, startling his guards. Jared raised an eyebrow at seeing them. Heh. His father left them here, huh? What can he do? “I’ll be going out for a bit.” He told them and didn’t wait for a response. The two of them simply exchanged glances before following closely behind him. He felt something ticklish in his chest. It was the bond, directing him where exactly he would find his mate. He immediately caught her scent and he followed it with his keen sense of smell. The sun is yet to go down. Given the circumstances, he figured she must be at home. He smirked, finding her after only ten minutes of walking around. Thankfully, her room has a window, allowing him to see her inside. He took a deep breath at the sight of her. She looked more beautiful at the comfort of her home, wearing simple clothes and with her hair down. He was momentarily appeased, charmed by her mere presence.
