In the morning, I had to squint when I opened my eyes. The sun streamed into the room through the window, making it bright and airy. I felt a slight headache from the celebration the night before, but when I recalled Emma bringing in my last present, my eyes widened in surprise.
I immediately felt my wolf's frustration, just as I had the day before, and all I could think about was Corinna's delicate face.
I got out of bed and walked to the bathroom, where the omega servants
awaited me with a wooden tub full of cold water. As I slipped into the water, I soon felt much better regarding my headache.
Barrett mind-linked me, informing me that breakfast was ready. I got dressed and headed to the dining room, where the first gaze I met belonged to Morgana.
"I heard you received a pleasurable present last night," her voice echoed in my mind as soon as I sat down next to her.
"Yes, it was quite a joyful gift," I replied.
When I glanced at her, I noticed her lips curling into a slight smile in response to my answer. Even though I wanted to continue the conversation, I couldn't ignore Barrett’s voice in my head.
"Alaric, when you finish your breakfast, we need to talk."
Since he was sitting right next to me, I knew it was something serious, so I quickly finished eating and followed him to the meeting room.
"What is it, Barrett?" I asked, now speaking aloud.
"The guards reported that some rogues have entered the territory without permission," he said.
I looked at him with concern. "Are you sure they are rogues?"
"I'd assume so. Why else wouldn't they come here first?"
"Right. Do we have any information about their whereabouts?"
"Yes, they are wandering in the fields, putting the peasants' lives at risk."
"Send some warriors to bring them into the castle. If they refuse to cooperate, put them in the dungeon."
Barrett nodded, then turned around and left. I stood at the window, took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly. Since I was awake, I couldn't get Corinna out of my mind, and my wolf wasn’t helping either. Every time I tried to focus on something else, he flooded my thoughts with memories of last night.
"Enough," I said to myself, walking out of the meeting room. I wanted to return to my room to plan the next hunt, but as I made my way down the corridor, I encountered Morgana.
"Are you busy, Alaric?" she asked.
I smiled and shook my head. "No, nothing urgent."
"Good." She smiled back and wrapped her arm around mine. "Then spend some time with me."
Not wanting to refuse her, I nodded in agreement. "It's a beautiful morning. How about a walk around the castle?"
"Fine," I replied. Her smile widened, and we walked outside. Although it was still cold, spring was starting to emerge. I loved this time of year. Seeing everything come alive gave me a sense of renewal, as if it were time to start something new.
"So, you turned thirty," she said.
"Yes," I agreed. "But I feel like I'm still twenty."
Morgana chuckled, keeping her arm wrapped around mine, but soon her expression turned serious.
"Alaric, the residents have started creating theories about you."
I frowned. "About what?"
"About your life. They wonder what you want to do. They're worried that you've decided to remain alone."
"What? Why do they think that?"
She rolled her eyes. "Because you're thirty and you haven't even tried to find your Luna."
"I'm okay right now," I replied, smiling.
"Oh, I know. I heard that you got a new she-wolf. They say she's beautiful and young, but you can't rely on them forever, Alaric."
Mentioning Corinna made my chest tighten a little.
"Alaric, you are a strong and good Alpha, but you can't let your pack be unsatisfied with you. The werewolves are thinking. They worry about what would happen if you don't bear a successor. They don't want to stay without a strong Alpha family who can defend, feed, and lead them."
I sighed.
"I need a good match, Morgana. And let's be honest, there are not many Alpha she-wolves around who could be my equal partner."
"Alaric, you don't even try to find them."
What she said was true, and I didn't want to wake up one time to one of my Betas or a few warriors wanting to challenge me. I was alone with Morgana by my side, unlike other Alphas who had a strong family.
"So, what is your advice?" I looked at her, and she smiled.
Contact other territories. Let them know that, due to your age, you are open to the idea of marriage. This territory is vast and rich. I am certain that other Alphas would send their daughters here happily to meet you."
I smiled.
"Well, I can do that."
Morgana nodded with a smile.
"Even if you don't find your match soon, at least the residents will see that you're trying."
We continued walking, but Morgana didn't bring up my future Luna again. Instead, she shared her ideas about improving the garden, and we spent the time outside until lunchtime.
After lunch, Barrett informed me that they had apprehended the rogues. Two males claimed they had accidentally entered the territory and asked for permission to stay. However, Barrett didn't find their story credible, so he sent them to the dungeon for further interrogation.
Even though I had many things to attend to, it was hard to concentrate. Corinna occupied my thoughts all day, and I couldn't wait for dinner to be over so I could ask Emma to bring her to me.
When the time came, I requested a bath. As evening approached, my anticipation of spending time with Corinna heightened my wolf's frustration within me.
When I was ready, I mind-linked Emma and asked her to prepare Corinna and bring her to my room. I poured a glass of wine for myself and set out a cup for her, in case she felt uncomfortable again. However, as I waited, my patience began to wane. I understood that Emma wanted to ensure Corinna looked perfect for me, but I wanted her to be here with me right away.
I took a deep breath and stepped out onto the balcony with my wine, gazing at the sky. It was a clear evening, and the stars were shining brightly. As I stood there, I felt my wolf yearning to break free from within me.
I closed my eyes in disbelief, struggling to comprehend what was happening to me. Why was I so drawn to Corinna, a gamma she-wolf? Why did I feel an overwhelming desire to be with her all the time?
When I finally opened my eyes, my gaze landed on a zodiac sign. It was clearly visible, almost as if it were meant to provide me with an explanation from above. My wolf echoed my thoughts: it was Gemini.
“No, that can't be,” I whispered.
She was an uneducated, poor gamma from nowhere—a weak she-wolf who probably didn’t even know her own wolf. How could the Moon Goddess do this to me? Was this some joke? How could she give me a mate like Corinna?
