Chapter 2

The journey was long once more, but the corridors she guided me through were in much better condition. Torches illuminated our path, and all the werewolves we encountered greeted the she-wolf with smiles, while casting curious glances in my direction. Before long, we arrived in a room that featured a large wooden tub, where three she-omegas were waiting for us. "Get her ready for tonight!" She clapped her hands, and the omega she-wolf quickly moved toward me. They gently guided me to the tub. Once I stood in it, they surrounded the tub and brought out lovely scented soap bars. They used cloths to wash my entire body and thoroughly shampooed my hair. However, when one of them wanted to touch my private part with the cloth, I closed my legs firmly. She looked at me. "I must clean you there." She said. "Why?" My voice trembled, and she sighed. "Because this is an order. Do you want to end up in the dungeon?" Hearing about the place that was compared to hell made me shake my head immediately. "Then just obey the orders you get." She whispered, then she forced my legs apart. They took a long time to wash my body, and then helped me step out of the tub. They covered me with clean linen and dried my skin. Two of them held a bottle containing an amazing-smelling oil. They massaged a thin layer of it into my body. Soon, one of them returned with a beautiful green silk gown that they helped me to put on. Even though my heart was pounding with fear, I couldn't help but wonder what I looked like. My long, dark blonde hair and green eyes complemented the silk gown that draped over my body like a feather. They sat me down and began styling my hair. They only added a few braids, carefully avoiding my hair to cover my face. Just as they finished, the gamma she-wolf arrived, looking at me with satisfaction. "Perfect," she said. "All of you may leave now." Her words sent another shiver down my spine, and feeling that it was now or never, I decided to take a chance. "Please! I only ended up here by mistake. I am the daughter of a peasant, and my family must be worried about me." She looked at me, and it felt like she was the only one who truly listened to my plea. "No one arrives here by accident. Instead of feeling frustrated and scared, you should be grateful for being here." I frowned, unable to grasp her perspective. "But..." "Stop pleading! You need to pull yourself together. Tonight is a big evening for you. You will have the chance to be a privileged she-wolf in the castle, but that depends on you." She turned me around and inspected my hair. "If you obey and follow my instructions, you will have a good future here. You’ll get everything you want and can live your life in comfort." Her words left me feeling confused, but I didn't dare ask any questions. "What is your name?" she asked. "Corinna," I replied. "Be happy, Corinna. Today is a big day; a grand celebration at the castle. I will take you to the dining room, but you are only allowed to eat what I give you. I don’t want you to feel sick tonight." She took the first step toward the door and motioned for me to follow her. "My name is Emma, by the way," she added. I didn't respond; I only nodded. Soon, we arrived in a smaller dining room where five she-wolves were already seated. "Ladies, let me introduce your new sister, Corinna," Emma said. They all stared at me for a moment before nodding, but none of them appeared happy to have me there. "Corinna, sit down, and I'll give you something to eat soon," Emma said. Even though the table was filled with delicious foods I had never tasted, I knew I wasn't allowed to touch anything. I only lifted my head when I heard one of the girls laugh. "This is pathetic. How is it that Emma keeps finding uglier she-wolves?" Her comment made me frown. She looked beautiful indeed, with her long, black hair and ocean-blue eyes. However, she also seemed the oldest, appearing closer to thirty than twenty. As I looked around, I realised that all the she-wolves were beautiful in their own ways, even though they all looked different. "Don't be so mean to her, Gia. She looks so innocent!" Another she-wolf laughed as she tossed a grape at the dark-haired girl. This girl had long red hair and blue eyes, and she didn't seem much younger than the other one. "I would be surprised if she even fits in here." She wanted to say more, but Emma returned, and they fell silent. "Here!" Emma exclaimed as she placed a bowl of soup in front of me. "This is all you can eat this evening." I glanced at the food, but my attention shifted back to Emma when I heard her clap her hands. "Come on, Corinna, we don't know when it will be your turn, so we need to be ready." I picked up the spoon and started to eat. The soup was indeed delicious, but the situation made it hard to enjoy. I ate simply because that was what was expected of me. It didn't take me long to finish the soup. As soon as I set down the spoon, Emma helped me stand up from the chair by holding my hand. "I'll take you to the dressing room, and the omegas will make sure your scent doesn't fade away. Don't fall asleep!" she said while leading me to another room. "Good luck!" Gia shouted after me. Emma smiled at that, which I found puzzling. It was clear that Gia was mocking me. I sat down in the dressing room, surrounded by omegas. The waiting felt endless, and soon my eyelids grew heavy. It was a struggle to stay awake. I was about to doze off when Emma appeared, seemingly in a rush. "Quickly, it's time!" she said. The omegas made sure I looked my best, while Emma held my hand tightly. We dashed down a corridor until we finally arrived at a door, where the Beta I had met before was waiting. He nodded and opened the door. Emma led me inside, and as soon as I took my first step, an intoxicating scent filled the air. My heart began to pound faster when I glanced at the male werewolf in front of me. He was sitting on the sofa, a cup of wine in his hand, looking at me with curiosity. His appearance took me aback. As I stared at his uncovered, muscular upper body, I felt something unfamiliar stirring in my chest. His black hair drew my attention, but it was his warm brown eyes that captivated me the most. "Alpha Alaric," Emma said, "please accept my birthday present for you. This is Corinna."
