Chapter Five Violet eyes turned to look at Abby. She had never been stared at so intently in her life. It felt like his eyes were burning through her; she felt her mouth grow dry as she clasped her hands together in her lap. “Abby Jones?” He asked and she fought down a shiver. The way he said her name was almost like a purr or a growl. She wasn’t sure which, but she felt like an animal being hunted. She shook her head, trying to break free of the fog her mind seemed to be in. “Yes Sir.” She answered him, her voice sounding slightly scratchy to her own ears. She cleared her throat and answered him a little clearer. “Tell me, Abby, what do you want?” He asked with a slight smirk, his eyebrow lifted as he waited for her to answer. “Um, you, um, do you mean why do I want this job?” She asked unsure. “I didn’t ask you why you wanted this job. I want to know what you want?” He asked, his smirk deepening into a smile. “I want something I haven’t experienced before and I think I can find it within your company.” She answered, unsure of why he wanted to know that question. “Really?” He asked, smiling mischievously at her. “I’m sorry if that wasn’t the answer you were expecting Sir, I’m trying to be honest.” She said nervously, her hands twisting in her lap. “I moved to the city to experience new things, and I know I couldn’t do that if I stayed where I was before. Most of the girls I went to high school with are already getting married and starting families. I wanted more than that. I want to make a difference.” “I can relate.” He smiled. “I mean there isn’t anything wrong with what they’re doing, it just isn’t for me. I want at the end of the day to say that I lived my life to the fullest.” She quickly added. Mr. Walker looked down at the file in his hands, Abby’s resume, and the notes Andrew had made earlier. “You don’t have much experience.” “I’m a quick learner and everyone’s gotta start somewhere. I just thought it would be under someone else.” She answered honestly. “That’s true. Give me three words that describe you.” He said not looking up. “Loyal, ambitious, and passionate. I think those would all be great things that I could show you given time.” Abby smiled. “Good. Ambition and loyalty are something I value very much.” He answered, “In an employee.” “This job will be challenging. Are you comfortable running errands for me?” “Yes Sir, I have got no problem doing that.” Abby said. She had a feeling that she would be getting the job. “Are you good with handling things quietly and discreetly?” He asked as he sat down the file. “I can keep secrets.” Abby nodded. “Are you comfortable working late? I work a lot of nights and overnight sometimes.” Mr Walker asked. “I’ve got no problems with working late or even overnight.” She answered. “That’s good. Anything else I should know about? Anything that might get in the way of work?” He asked, standing up. “No Sir.” Abby said, moving to stand. “No husband or boyfriend?” Mr Walker asked, looking at her over his shoulder as he moved to the door. “Not right now, Sir.” She answered, following him out the door. He paused before looking at her. “Good, you’re hired.” He said with a smile. “I’m hired?” Abby squeaked out, a smile spreading across her face. “You are. Welcome to Collins and Walker Pharmaceuticals’ family,” Mr Walker said over his shoulder as he moved towards the door. “Follow me.” Andrew, who stood in the hallway tapping away at his phone, “Sir, we have several more qualified candidates that I haven’t interviewed yet.” He frowned as he looked at his boss. “I think she’ll do just fine.” Mr. Walker said. “I understand. Sir,” Andrew said, walking off still typing away at his phone. Mr. Walker turned heading in the direction of the elevators, Abby followed him with a bounce in her step. Things would hopefully start looking up for her now that she was gainfully employed. *** Drake was right. He had come into his office earlier and it shocked Owen. He had never seen his friend and lover like this. Over a girl, a girl his friend said smelled f*****g incredible, and Owen knew for himself that she did smell f*****g fantastic. He felt his mouth water as she stood next to him in the elevator. His fangs itched to descend and he fought with his demon. He wanted to pull her to him, bury his fangs in the tender column of her neck. That would probably get him into a lot of trouble, though. HR might frown on that. He didn’t even know if she knew about his world: vampires, werewolves, shifters, or anything to do with the paranormal. Owen would have time to introduce her to it. Hopefully, it wouldn’t take long for her to figure it out. He was dying to have a taste of her. She pushed her hair behind her ear and looked at him through lowered lashes. “Mr. Walker, I just wanted to say thank you.” She smiled shyly. “Call me Owen,” he said, wanting to hear his name on her lips. Although her calling him Sir didn’t bother him either, he would prefer for her to call him Sir in a different setting, one that involved her splayed across his desk. Her slacks pulled down to her ankles as he turned her ass pink with the slap of his hand. Owen watched as she bit her lower lip, looking at him. f**k. He fought down a groan. He couldn’t help but wonder if she knew how she was making him feel. “Yes Sir, I mean yes Owen. I’m really thankful you picked me and I promise I won’t let you down.” She smiled up at him and it felt like the sun was shining at him.
