The silent night stretched into the early hours of the morning, the grand clock in the tower striking one. Outside, the wind howled through the mountains, rushing down with unrelenting force, making the ancient trees sway and their leaves rustle like whispers in the dark. The castle gates had long since closed, sealing in the remnants of the evening's grandeur as the festivities of the night came to an end.
Most of the castle was now cloaked in darkness, the warm glow of candles and chandeliers extinguished except for a few dimly lit corridors where servants finished their nightly duties. The guards changed shifts in silence, their heavy boots echoing against the stone floors as they moved to their designated posts.
