3| CHAPTER THREE

As soon as they arrived in Mexico, Trick contacted the rental company that would be responsible for the car he would use to get to and from all of the locations he planned to see while they were there. He had to carry Amaira to the car since he didn't want to wake her up as she was still asleep. Hope smiled to herself as she watched them. She had been guessing that perhaps her best friend and her Alpha were mated, but she remained silent. She was two years older than Amaira, thus she was familiar with the concept of mates. Her best friend was still young, and despite having been educated about mates, she was still naïve. As they walked to the car, she followed them quietly. She was about to ask who was going to take their suitcases when she noticed two men placing them into the car boot. Despite the fact that Amaira was often travelling with Trick, Hope was not used to travelling long distances. She had never understood the fuss, but now that she was there, she desperately wanted to accompany her best friend whenever she went on a trip with their alpha. Hope has never seen a hotel as exquisite as the one Trick took them to, at least not in real life. She made the decision to act indifferently about it, as if it were nothing since she didn't want to disgrace herself or her Alpha. Later, she was going to scream. The staff assisted them with their things once again as they made their way to the penthouse. The hotel was one of Trick's properties in Mexico, and the workers knew who he was. Being a billionaire must be nice, Hope thought as she was shown her room. Since she loved to eat, the fact that her room was across from the kitchen was a benefit for her, and Trick's smile at her indicated that he knew she loved to eat. Before heading to his own room, he carried Amaira to the room directly across from his and made sure she was perfectly tucked in. He could only hope for her to get enough rest because the coming days would be quite stressful. He still had clear memories of his first shift. Nothing could have prepared him for the pain that he felt that night, even though he knew it was coming. He could feel his wolf becoming antsy the entire week prior to his birthday. It had always been at his side, but at that time, for the first time in his life, it was about to be released. Despite the fact that he knew there was no way to save Amaira from suffering, he still didn't want her to go through it. He could only be there for her when it happened, just like his parents were. He didn't want her to be alone, so he agreed to take her along with him despite knowing it was wrong. He knew he couldn't forgive himself if Amaira went through her first shift without him since he was her mate. But the one thing that troubled him was how he was going to tell her that they were mates. Despite the fact that he knew keeping it from her was in their best interests, he still struggled with guilt since it appeared as though he was betraying her when, in reality, he wasn't. He had spent thirteen long years raising Amaira, and he wasn't ready to lose now. Knowing that she was mated to her Alpha was not his concept of a normal lifestyle, and he wanted her to lead a normal life. He only prayed that once she knew, she would fully understand him. He walked to Hope, who was already in the living room after making sure Amaira was sleeping comfortably. When she spotted him, she rose to her feet. "Alpha." She bowed her head in acknowledgement of him. "There is already food packed in the refrigerator, but Amaira is now sleeping and I have no clue when she will wake up. Since I decided at the last minute that we would remain here, there isn't much. I'll arrange for someone to take you and Amaira to the grocery store tomorrow. I'll be busy for a bit, but feel free to call or tell Amaira to come to my office if she needs to speak with me. Have a good sleep." "Thank you, Alpha. I'll take care of Amaira and make sure she has everything she needs." Trick smiled appreciatively, understanding that he could rely on Hope's support. "I trust you, Hope. Your help means a lot to both me and Amaira." Hope returned his smile warmly. "You don't need to thank me, Alpha. Amaira and I are best friends, and friends look out for each other." Trick entered his own room, ready to retire for the night, when a familiar voice echoed within his mind. His wolf began nudging at the back of his mind, urging him to unblock him. 'You know I blocked you for a reason, right? You seem to lose your mind when we're next to Amaira.' His wolf didn't seem to care about that as he spoke. 'You know, Trick, we should be with her. Why deny ourselves the pleasure of her company? We're mates, after all.' 'And I have told you several times that we can't do that. She doesn't know that yet and I don't want to scare her off.' His wolf rolled his eyes and Trick couldn't help but chuckle at that. His wolf sometimes behaved more human than anyone Trick had ever met in his life and, on top of that, he was very naughty. Theo responded promptly, his words echoing with a playful tone. 'Ah, Trick, don't forget, we are one. I live inside you, and if you say I'm naughty, then that means you're naughty too.' 'That's true.' Trick laughed. He was somehow grateful that his wolf was trying his best to make him relax and stop worrying about their mate's shift. 'Sooner or later, we'll have to face her and tell her the truth. Why not do it now and save everyone from unnecessary trouble?' 'I thought we were done with that? Why are you stubborn? Amaira needs her sleep. You know this week is gonna be very difficult for her.' 'All the reason for us to be around her.' Trick decided to block him. Even though he didn't like his wolf's reasoning, deep down he knew that he was right. He should tell Amaira the truth so that she doesn't get angry at him but he wasn't going to do it. He knew that Amaira's life was going to change once she knew everything and because of that, he wanted her to have whatever freedom she had left. Being his mate came with a lot of responsibilities and he didn't want her to have to endure all of that sooner than necessary. Theo was right about one thing though, he should be with her. He tried to think of all the reasons why he shouldn't but couldn't come up with one. He could swear he heard his wolf say I told you so when he went back to Amaira's room. He couldn't help but roll his eyes at that. His wolf had the biggest ego. Hope was already eating when Trick passed by the kitchen and he smiled at her. He knew the girl could eat and ever since she got her wolf, she's been eating more. Trick had always wished his mate could eat like her best friend but no matter how much he tried, Amaira has always been a light eater
