1| CHAPTER ONE

2000 Words
Thirteen years ago, 'Are you sure of what you’re saying? You know the risk of being out here in the woods at this hour.’ Trick asked his wolf as it ran further into the woods. He’d been walking around the pack as he usually does on Sundays, but his wolf decided to take control and, since he was in the woods and the pack territory, he decided to give in. It was safe to shift anytime, anywhere when he was within pack grounds. When he was in the city, though, it was a different story. 'Have I ever lied to you?' Well, Trick knew the answer to that. His wolf has always been right and he has never doubted his intentions. 'No, not even once. We’re close to leaving the pack territory though, and I’m not in the mood to fight anybody. ’ Even though being in his pack was safe, he knew he would encounter rogues and he would have to fight, which was something he never looked forward to. His wolf didn’t pay attention to what he was saying; on the contrary, it ran faster than before and gave him back control as soon as they left the pack grounds. 'Fuck you, Theo.’ His wolf just released a sound he had learned a long time ago that it was its way of laughing at him. He looked around him, checking his surroundings until he also heard it. His wolf had said there was a baby in the woods, but he wasn’t sure if it was real or not. The cry of the baby did something to both him and his wolf and he knew that his eyes had changed from their original golden-green colour to sparkling red. The baby continued to cry and he moved in that direction. “Motherfucker!” He cursed as a small piece of glass pierced through his foot. He quickly bent down and removed it and continued walking. “This is the reason why I hate walking barefoot.” He saw the baby wrapped in a white cloth and quickly took it in his arms. As soon as he did that, the baby stopped crying and looked at him. Trick didn't know what to do, so he just smiled and the baby smiled back. Fuck! What do I do with this baby? He thought to himself. I've never held a baby before and I hardly pay attention to them in the pack. He looked around to see if someone was out there checking on the baby, but he didn't feel any presence. "If I take you with me, how am I going to take care of you?" The baby didn't say anything. It's not like it was going to say anything anyway. Who would leave a month old baby alone in the woods? He didn't expect an answer from anybody. He saw a note next to where the baby was left and took it. He accidentally touched her in the process and almost dropped her due to shock. Jesus fuckin' Christ. His eyes instantly changed colour and he was sure his wolf's presence could be felt miles away. As an Alpha, his dominance was beyond that of a normal wolf, not to mention that he is a golden wolf. Mine! The word came directly from his wolf to his mouth. He looked at her again and this time, he could feel her wolf even though it wasn't fully developed yet. Right at that moment, he decided that he was going to be the one to take care of her, even though he didn't have the slightest idea of how he was going to do it. He just knew that he was going to. I don't know who will find our daughter in these woods, but we can only hope that whoever it is will be a good person and willing to take her with you. She isn't a normal girl, and we wouldn't want to surprise you. If you don't understand what we mean by that, then we would suggest that you leave her there for people who will understand what we are trying to say. Her name is Amaira. Trick understood every single word. They wanted those who understood the supernatural world. I will take care of your daughter for as long as I live. That is my promise to you both. Amaira is mine now and from this day onwards, I will make sure that she never lacks anything. His wolf also agreed. Their mate will be the happiest girl in the whole world. There was never going to be a single day where he would watch her being maltreated by anybody. He made his way back to the pack territory in a very happy mood. He could remember that his father used to tell him as a child that meeting your mate was the best thing a werewolf could ever experience. He now understood what his father meant, even though it took him years to do so. He was one of the lucky people on the planet. As the years went by, the changes were also becoming slimmer by the day. Trick always thought he would never meet his because even those younger than him had met theirs. He didn't shift back to his wolf when he was heading back to the pack territory and Amaira didn't cry either. She was comfortable in his arms and he could feel it. Why did you have to be a little baby though? I'm twenty-two years older than you. She just smiled, like she could read what was going on in his mind, which made him wonder if she really did hear. Once he reached the pack grounds, his mother was already waiting for him. "I was asking myself where you went to and you know I hate having to worry about you." She said and then noticed that he was carrying a baby. "Whose child is that?" "I'm no longer a child mother and you know that." "I don't care about that Patrick. Whose child is that?" Trick winced at the name his mother used. He had gotten so used to everybody calling him Trick that he sometimes forgot what his name really was. "I found her in the woods and I decided to bring her back and raise her." "You? Raise a child?" His mother pinched herself to show him that she was asking herself if she was dreaming or what. "Is that so hard to believe? Theo told me there was a baby in the woods and so we went there. I didn't know what to do until I realised she was mine, so I decided to take her back with me. " His mother covered his mouth and dragged her inside the house. She checked if there was someone who heard him and when she was satisfied that no one was near, she closed the door and came back to him. "How many times have I told you to watch what comes out of that mouth of yours? This is a serious matter and you shouldn't say it out loud outside like it is a good thing. "Patrick, you are an alpha and there are some things that you have to avoid. You are not married yet. I don't think it is a good idea to bring her here, let alone raise her. " He looked at his mother like she grew a second head. "Mom, what are you talking about? Why can't I raise her?" "Are you kidding me? You have a reputation to uphold and I don't think raising your daughter here is a good idea. What if you decide to find a wife in the future?" Trick didn't even realise he was growling until his mother growled back. "There will be no wife in the future except her. I didn't say she was my daughter; I told you that she is mine and I am hers. She is my mate, not my daughter!" It was his mother's turn to look at him like he grew a second head. She didn't say anything for a while; she just stood there and looked at him, not believing what he said. Trick didn't say anything either, he just stood there. Theo, on the other hand, was fuming. He didn't understand that she misunderstood what Trick said. He only thought she didn't want their mate and intended to find Trick a new bride. "Can I see her?" Theo battled for control again, telling Trick not to give her the baby since he didn't trust her around their mate. "She's my mother, you idiot. She would never do that to me.' After some serious convincing, he finally gave in and Trick gave the baby to his mother. She cried as soon as she took her in her arms. No matter what she did, the baby wouldn't stop crying until she gave her back to Trick. "I guess she doesn't want anybody except you. This is not going to be easy. You need someone to help you take care of her. You can't do it alone." He knew that his mother was right, but he also knew he had no choice. If his mate wanted to be in his arms only, there was no way he was going to deny her that. He had promised her that she was going to be the happiest girl alive and he was not someone who changed their minds so easily. Nothing will change that. Since I said that I was going to take care of you, nothing will change that. You are mine and I wouldn't deserve to be yours if I can't even take care of you. I have never taken care of a baby before, but for you, I am willing to learn so that I can be the best thing that ever happened to you. I will protect you from every possible harm and I will love you for as long as I breathe because you are mine and I am yours. My Amaira. "You don't have to worry, mother. I told you that I wanted to raise her, and I will do just that. I know I'm inexperienced, but those ladies who become first-time moms start out as inexperienced too. I know I will do a good job. This is my mate and I will give her the best that I can." "I am just worried and you can't blame me. You are still young and that too, a boy. Besides being inexperienced, I don't think it is a good idea for a boy to raise a child on his own." Trick understood what his mother really wanted to say. She was worried that he would make mistakes in the future and harm his mate and then he would regret it for the rest of his life. Amaira is the only mate he has and if something were to go wrong, he would be mateless for the rest of his remaining life. She didn't want him to carry that grief, she wanted him to be happy and safe. He understood his mother's words and her concern for him, but he knew there was no turning back. He was going to take care of his mate no matter what was awaiting him. He looked at his mate and as if she could feel his eyes on her, she opened her eyes and looked at him. When she saw him, she smiled at him. You smile a lot, you know that? I hope you will also smile like this as you grow older. Your smile is adorable. Her smile widened and Trick couldn't help but smile along with her. This was going to be a tough road, but for her, he was willing to walk down that road, especially after realising how tough it was going to be. The tougher it was going to be, the more he was willing to do it.
