POV: Marianne Reed The shrill sound of my phone broke the silence of the morning. I frowned when I saw the caller ID flashing across the screen: Agent Bent. Of course. I let it ring once… twice… three times. On the fourth, I sighed and swiped to answer. “Why are you calling me, Bent?” My tone was sharper than I intended, but I didn’t care. On the other end, I heard a chuckle. “Hello to you too.” “I don’t have time for pleasantries,” I snapped. “Why are you calling my phone?” “Relax, girl,” Bent said, dragging the word out as if that would calm me. “The higher ups want to see you.
